Whoever designed that front ribbon cable should be fired immediately.

Cleaning my fan after 7 years
  • why cant they make it like PC. open one side and access everything. iam so pissed.
  • Since nobody seems to have mentioned it: The ZIF (zero insertion force) socket the ribbon cable is connected by, has the locking mechanism briefly shown but not properly explained. To release the ribbon you pull out gently on BOTH sides of the locking mechanism (the darker tan part), which unlocks it. The cable can then be removed with nearly "Zero Force", and without damage. When reconnecting, this lock must be unlocked as well, and should require again zero insertion force to put it back in. The trick is when putting the ribbon back in it often will push the locking arm back in part way if you're not careful (it's an easy mistake to make) so it helps to hold out on the lock gently while sliding the ribbon cable back in. Then simply push the lock closed again. Hope this helps all the people who were having trouble reassembling.

First time fixer of anything console-related and I just wanted to say thanks for this really calm and detailed video. Was still a little nervous I'd break something, but followed all of the tips and got my Xbox cleaned and running like new (kinda)

Ok I just took everything apart to clean it Now to put it back together
  • For anyone wondering, Once you take the rib ion cable off, take the front casing off the top of Xbox. It’s easier then trying to put it back on with the top and front screen n together. It’s also easier if you push the little clip out all the way without breaking it. 6:44 (that clip). You can put the ribbon cable back in easier. All in all I think everyone should give this a try and definitely clean the Xbox. Don’t be scared at all. It was my first time after 6 years of having my Xbox and I never broke a single part and just took everything off carefully. Put the screws in a bowl don’t lose them. Tools you will need though is: T8 Tork T10 Tork Flat screw driver. (Tiny is best) bigger screw drivers break plastic.
  • Thank you very much for taking the time to make this video. Very clear instructions that really help save you from shipping off for expensive repair. People, if your good mechanically and have patience. It's no problem.
  • Tip for anyone with problems with the top cover: You can unclip the top cover and the panel with the Xbox button on it from eachother. Put the top cover on first, then get the front panel and put the ribbon cable in. Put the bottom clips of the front panel in first and then the top Helped me out hopefully it helps you too

I've cleaned my Xbox one and wanted to cry as I was struggling with the power ribbon lol, I finally got it on, started it up and it works, thank you for the tutorial but maybe you could put a video up to show getting the ribbon on easily so people don't stress as much as I did.... Just saying. Again, great tutorial

"Use a hair drying to take the sticker off" Uses a blow torch and burns the edge immediately. LMFAOOOOOOOO
  • Thanks man. Great tutorial for opening the Xbox One. I was able to open the console, take everything apart, clean it, and put it back together again. The front face plate can be separated from the top cover as well. It makes it easier to put the front ribbon cable back.
  • I just want to say as a 1st timer taking apart any console this is the best described video I've seen. Thank you for all the explanation and the help of everything .
