That is the most positive thing I have heard in a while bro.
  • one thing you forgot to point out is that by necessity, a clout-earning Splatfest Match involves two teams. In previous games, that meant the splatfest was a bit of a zero-sum business. In this game though, one team can partake in more matches or be left out of more matches than the others.
  • There is no such thing as luck. Skill wins the splatfest. HAIL SHIVER

The sneak peak is actually not likely to be awarded to the team with the most votes: sneak peak is based on people who play prior to the Splatfest, while popularity is calculated after every vote is cast before AND during the Splatfest. This is why the sneak peak has deviated from the popularity in multiple Splatfests. It is a measure of playtime leading up to the Splatfest. This is an example of correlation, not causation.

Is there a reason to believe that the most popular team has a disproportionately larger amount of voters who don’t play? If clout is based on the average then shouldn’t every team be weighed down by a similar percentage of non-playing members?

During a splatfest I go home on friday play at 8pm-1am then a 6am on Saturday I get up and play until 2am, then on sunday I play at 6am-7pm then see the results in the morning.

Bruh, thank you so much. This video was a lifesaver. This is my 3rd splatfest now and it still made little sense to me. You explain everything perfectly and I love the exit for your video. Just bringing everyone together to have fun.
  • @roland2852
I’m subbing, thanks for the explanation!

"And what the heck is clout" clout is an internet drug

I have a very different theory on what clout is and how it works and would like to discus it. My theory: lets look at the Big Foot clout stats at the beginning: I think it ONLY shows your own clout, NOT the Average Clout of your own Team. My example on Open Clout: You played many matches Open, and gathered over the course of the Whole Splatfest 53113 Points. The Average Means, how many Clout YOU earned on Average in one Match, which is: 3540 (which would mean, you Played 53113 / 3540 = 15 Matches) and That Average will be Taken from every Match in the entire splatfest from every Team and that way the Endresult is calculated. Now one would say "It is not possible to have 3540 as average clout if you have a normal 50/50 win lose ratio, BUT you have to remember 10x, 100x and 333x Battles which increase these Average clout per Match a lot upwards) So wining is indeed MORE valuable than just Playing a lot. 1 Win is better than 5 loses even tho for example a win gives 100 clout and a lose 20 Clout. Even tho in both ways you earned 100 clout total, your AVERAGE Clout per Match is 100 or 20 and THAT is what matters. I think in SplatNet 2 you could actually see your own Average Clout per Match AND the Average Clout per Match of your enitre Team and of the other Team, but they removed that now in Splatoon 3. This is my theory and I would love to hear from you and discus it further.

But Spicy won Tricolor and lost their fest. I know because it's the only category I have ever won in a fest ever (I haven't been on the winning team yet; only today did I win conch shells for Power).

In Splatoon 2 your win rate actually mattered slightly more or slightly less depending on the popularity of the team. If you're the more popular team you need to have a higher win rate to compensate for the average clout being spread across more players, whereas if you're on the less popular team you have a little more wiggle room and could win a little less than half of your games while still contributing more to your team average than the points you gave to your opponents did. I think your analysis of average is a bit flawed here though as it doesn't matter across how many people the points you give away to the other team are spread, the affect to the average will be the same. For instance, assuming I have 5 opponents and in one scenario I give each opponent 50 points, and in another scenario I give four of them 0 points and one 250 points the effect to the average of those teams is the same. They both average to 50 points. In 3, however, the fact that there are 3 teams is a huge factor in how much winning you actually need to do to be a positive contribution to your team winning. If it's an even splatfest and half of your games are against one team while the other half are against the other, you will contribute more to your team than to the other 2 as long as you are able to win more than 1/3rd of your games. It's a bit more complex than this because your team popularity will also influence this just like it does in 2 and potentially a lot more because the disparities can be way bigger. But regardless, this means that as long as you win at least one match every 3 games it's more valuable for you to play as much as possible because your playing more will only earn your team more points in the long run. It's still worth keeping in mind that there are so many players that your influence on the overall success of your team is extremely miniscule. There will never be a situation where you alone playing the game 1 more hour will make the difference between your team winning or losing. Play as much as you are comfortable and don't worry too much about optimizing your contribution in a numbers game as massive as this is. Have fun and don't take the losses personally. You are statistically more likely to lose in this game after all.
  • @omgryannn
clout is popularity. when u win u gain more popularity.
  • @CheesyLizzy
I noticed that i still get clout even if fhere was a disconnect during the game, is that fair?
  • @Dethneko
Curious about that, and how you know this, because I have several splatfests where I didn't touch pro mode and have no stats listed, not even the average. You'd think if my non-participation mattered it's still show the average.

People be like "y'all be pressed by a small snail quantity difference LAWL" and I'm here like "Bih I don't even CARE about the snails and I never use them??"
