How U.S. interstate highways are numbered? πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ Dive into the fascinating system behind the numbering of U.S. interstate highways. πŸš— Discover how major interstate highways are labeled with two digits divisible by 5. Highways that stretch from east to west end in 0, ranging from I-10 to the longest, I-90. Meanwhile, north-south highways end in 5, with I-5 being a unique case where you can imagine a 0 before the 5. 😱 This clever system ensures easy navigation across the country, similar to how our ancestors navigated by the stars. The farther southwest you are, the lower the highway numbers, and as you move northeast, the numbers get higher. Highways ending in 0 indicate horizontal routes, while those ending in 5 indicate vertical routes. Additionally, the interstate minors, which are branches off the major highways marked with three-digit numbers. The last two digits match the major highway number. If the first digit is even, the branch loops back to the major highway; if it's odd, it doesn't reconnect. πŸš€

That's actually pretty interesting and useful, but I will forget all of this in 2 minutes

I’m 40 and never even questioned how they were numbered πŸ˜‚
  • I didn't know this. They should teach us this in schools, it's so very important.
  • This is the most informative video I've seen all month on YouTube. Thank you for providing me life skills I had no idea I needed!!
  • Idk why but understanding that this level of organization goes into our interstates is pleasing to my brain
  • I'm a truck driver and this is something I first learned when I was in trucking school.. it's pretty neat

Im 45. My dad was a truck driver when i was growing up. He explained this to me when i was 16 and learning to drive. Back then, there was no GPS . So this info helped me to never get lost when traveling. The same info also works for regular US highways. Odd numbers go north and south, even numbers go east and west.
  • This could have saved me the whole years course we took in school with learning maps and highways in school for travel

Driving for 20 years and now just learned what the numbers mean. I live next to i35 and have always wondered but never googled it. Pretty cool actually
  • Glad it was clarified that this is a general rule. I-29 in Iowa runs N-S but does not end in 5. I-76 in Colorado runs e-w but does not end in 0.

I'm 44, my husband used to drive trucks when he was younger. As I've taken more road trips throughout the United States this information has been super useful.
