Cities across Canada have long tried to figure out how to tackle homelessness.

In recent months, cities like Vancouver, Edmonton, and Montreal have seen encampments grow under dangerous conditions before being dismantled, leaving people who already have nowhere to go in dire straits.

The problem is paralleled in the U.S., where the state with America's largest homeless population is now cracking down on encampments.

Bianca Facchinei explains why, and the backlash that it’s facing.

yeah and just what tf do you think this is going to solve? absolutely nothing they'll just go to another spot and camp out
  • @InvisibleHotdog
Now that they're in nicer neighborhoods, Newsom's friends gave him a call and this is his "solution"
  • You can ban as much as you want. But if you dont fix the problem by giving them a place to go. Then they still are going to be homeless and still encamp. You hitting a wall with a stick. The wall will still stand unless you do something else

They waited too long . They should have been building shelters a long time ago . Now where those people supposed to go. 😢

To be fair alot of homeless people won’t even stay in shelters we have now because they refuse to follow rules.

The whole damn system is guilty. Homelessness is a feature, not a bug, of capitalism. The purpose of visible homelessness is to scare workers into not making waves at work- because they can wind up just like the homeless person across the street if they get fired. Any one of us can. You think you’re special? You’re one bad stroke of luck away from the encampments.

  • @tommykrynock
You can't have people just camping on sidewalks and streets and public places they're going to offer you housing or if you need mental health facility you will have to go there or if you have drug problem you'll have to go to rehab if you decline any of these I'm assuming you will be arrested and put in jail you're not going to get your life together living in a tent on the sidewalk it's just not going to happen you need to be in a shelter at minimum.

Who's paying for all their "smokes"? Surely not taxpayers.
  • @KatsCorner
Wonderful where are these people going go? You have to offer them some kind of housing.
