Florida is an “at-will” or “right-to-work” state. Generally, there are no contracts, most employment in Florida exists as long as the employer and employee chose to work together. This means that an employee has the ability to quit at any time. This also means that an employer can fire an employee at any time for any reason, as long as the employee is not fired for any discriminatory reason.

    Was an electrician in Utah and man was I underpaid and overworked. If you hate the union then you need to pay people right

    Right to work is not the same thing as at will. At will = no reason for termination needed Right to work = unions must spend the same money to represent all employees, but employees do not have to contribute anything.

    All 50 states are "At-Will" with the exception of maybe Montana. Right-to-work states is where someone can join a union w/o paying for it. These states also have lower hourly wages and worse benefits compared to union-friendly ones.
  • It does not go "both ways" You can quit anytime you want in non right to work states

    Happened to me worked 5 years for a company here in Florida and one day the GM brought me in his office and said we have to part ways. Found out later on it was the amount of money they were paying me in my position. They probably will bring someone else in and pay them less.

    so u say u can quit at anytime and u say they cant force u to work on monday, but i mean who the hell is going to force me to work ? no one’s coming to my house and taking me to work i’m confused

    I do have a question about filming contracts. In a film contract, it states that I can't make any money off of my film itself under this certain contract, but does that really apply to me living here in Florida in a right-to-work state?

    what insubordination is protected by law? i read some was but couldn't find what...also is there a list of things i can cash in my deferred judgment?

    I'm missing something, you say an employer can't force you to come back after you quit, how does that even happen? If a person quits and does not want to return to work, how can an employer force a person back to work?

    I’m in Indiana. Another at-will state. Door swings both ways, no reason to stay with an abusive employer

    Fact: in Chicago non union top earners heating and air…are around $35 hr. most companies offer ZERO benefits such as matching 401k ZERO PENSIONS!!!!!!!!!! you pay for yourself and family to be insured which means out of your $35 hr = $750 a week after taxes you now get to pay for your insurance… family of 6 (husband wife and 4 kids) $250 a week now your at $500… gas if you have a truck at least $100, tolls $40, food for family $200 that’s $160 a week left for rent, electric, and whatever else. $640 a month… your wife better have a good job !!!!!!!!!! Now what I am.. a union local 73 sheet metal worker journeyman. (Heating and air) take home $1450 a week. All my insurance for myself wife and 5 kids PAID! $20,000 a yr 401k after 30 yrs that’s $600,000 when I retire. We have a vacation plan which equals 2 weeks a yr. I have two pensions and social security which will give me around $5k a month when I retire. The right to work bill is a scam to take away from workers and give more to companies. The big non union company shops around Chicago have owners who flaunt their wealth taking their porches , Lamborghinis and Ferraris to the shop every day to rub it in their faces of the employees. Done believe me ask an employee. Oh they also get to work 90hrs a week killing them selves for the owners who continue to rape them. Anyone who works non union is a fool!!! And you are willingly letting the rich take hard earned money out of the pockets of the hard working Americans that are trying to support a family. The American dream is dying and it’s because the rich are making the gap between them and the working class people so wide it will be the rich and the slaves! You are literally voting to one day have your grandchildren be slaves to the rich! Fools!!!

    Wait. When he mentions the "other side" being you can quit whenever you want. You can already do that in non-right-to-work states too right?
  • You can always ask for an in writing formal contracted fully notarized work agreement. Meaning employer and employee agree to let's say a 4 year legal binding work agreement, at the end of 4 years renegotiate or agree to terminate. Very simple thing. I dont imagine a fastfood, restaurant or various other low-skill job this will work out in anyones favor. But most definately it can work in a mid-level or high level (skilled) job. Of course you may not see raises until renegotiations happen, you could build that into the contract, perhaps a 3.5% raise each year on the anniversary in order to keep up with "normal" inflation. It would be very simillar to a military contract, each party has rules and agreements, if either is violated the contract is broken, if employer violats it they are liable to pay you all remaining wages upfront.

    If you are in a union with a contract you can stop working at anytime with no penalty and they can’t make you come back, so the right to work is a law for the employer to do as they like.
