This is the kind of basketball today's generation will never experience. Legendary Big East rivalries built on teams who's players faced off against each other for FOUR years creating drama you can't fake. St.John's, Syracuse, and Georgetown games were EVENTS. 80's and early 90's college basketball will never be equaled.

Patrick Ewing was must see TV back in the day. Nasty, competitive, THE most elite defender, talented and most importantly a smart ball player.

There will never be anything like the original Big East in College basketball ever again. I grew up a UCONN fan and had the pleasure of watching our home team grow into a national powerhouse...but these old Cuse/Gtown games were savage. Any matchup in the Big east during this era was amazing, even Providence, BC or Seton Hall.

Man I wish the Big East Conference was back to this format again. This was true BIG EAST BASKETBALL 🏀
-
The Pearl made the game-winning play, but Raf Addison led all scorers with 26 points and 12 rebounds. Loved this team.

I remember in elementary school watching BigEast in the 1980s an I forgot just how intensed and rabid these games were. The energy is awesome

This was raw, unadulterated HATRED for the opponent. The world is too occupied with their cell phone driven lives, and this is why this type of raucous environment will NEVER be seen again. So glad I was able to experience this game as it happened.

IMO the 1980's was the greatest decade in college basketball history. I liken it to how many folks value the 1950s as the greatest decade for baseball. And the beauty, the power was nicely spread out over the decade. For example, I give the early 80s edge to the ACC. Then we get to the mid 80s and the Big East just absolutely trucked all other conferences. Late 80s was a little more of a toss up but I'd probably give it to the Big 10.

Game note: starters Michael Brown, Reggie Williams, and David Wingate all played at Baltimore Dunbar.

RIP Pearl
-
Pearl Washington, the reason that I became a Syracuse fan as a kid. He was the shit!!!!
-
BIG EAST WAS KING!! John Thompson the GREAT John Thompson, came to our summer camp the year before. Height of Hoya Paranoia! Awesome footage!
-
I think ESPN’s opening graphics looked so nice back then.
-
My first ever College Basketball game!! And was hooked immediately!🧡🍊🏀
-
Pearl Washington was electric. He could get anywhere on the court. I honestly don't think I ever saw anyone stop him.
-
THIS MAN. THE PEARL WAS DANGEROUS IN THE OPEN COURT.
-
very underrated rivalry - still have some good matches even in different conferences
-
i remember watching the orange splatter against the backboard as Ewing shot free throws. It was such an intense rivalry. Bitter hatred of the Hoyas.
-
Jim Boeheim and Bill Raftery still at it

this was the only game I was at being from Syracuse, NY. It was truly memorable! I spoke to Rony Seikaly once for 2 hours on campus at Marshall Square. My neck ached having to look up at Rony.
