"Purple Hair" when her hair is the hottest pink I've ever seen LMAO
  • I still can't believe Taylor Lautner went from a half-man/half-shark to a half-man/half-wolf Evolution works in mysterious ways

This movie is like an actual fever dream, and to watch it as an adult is so different than growing up with it as a kid. And I'll tell you the one, biggest reason why we loved it. Texture. The texture in this movie, from the costumes to the horrible CGI stuff to the milk and cookies scene - everything just feels so satisfying like you can grab it. Plus most of us saw it theaters or at home with 3D glasses (because the DVD case came with them too lol) so that was pretty cool for the time :)

I kinda love Linus in the dream-world. You can just tell that the actor had an absolute blast chewing the scenery.

The reason this movie was so good as a child was because these types of movies were the fantasy all the kids had. You could really imagine this happening to you too when you were a kid. And because the writing was so childish, all the kids could understand it very well.

This movie is so special and charming because it was a faithful recreation of a real child's dream. It's not supposed to feel like a dream, it really is a dream, which lends it authenticity and makes it connect with children in a way no adult could really understand. And because the dream was that of the director's kid, this movie is a love letter from a parent to a child. Instead of adults trying to make a digestible mass marketable product based on what adults think kids like, this movie actually listened to what kids wanted. No movie better captures the wild imagination of children in such a way, and in that way it's an artistic accomplishment. Art in movies isn't about making the most easily to understand series of events possible, art in movies is capturing an expression.
  • This movie was written by a five year old. No joke, a five year old wrote the story and the dad wrote the script.
  • I love how Max gives Sharkboy his whole backstory & Lavagirl was just kinda there in his bathroom. A sign of a true Wattpad fic writer.
  • "Lava Girl walked so Belle Delphine could run" is absolute gold

Could be metaphorical representation of max dealing with his trauma and dissociating. The tornado representing a panic attack and sharkboy and lava girl showing up to take him to planet drool is his mind checking out to save him

Writer: “Ok, so Lavagirl has purple flames for her hair!” Special effects guy: “Pink wig, take it or leave it”

when you’re a kid you don’t realize that most of the shows and movies are cringe
  • The only thing I remember from this movie is that sharkboy and Lavagirl represented his parents, because they " Hurt each other when they were close." Or something like that. I always read it as a form of coping for a generation of kids who's parents kept splitting.

One thing that I think was severally under-developed in this move was the minor subplot about Max's parents fighting & possibly getting a divorce. There are seeds for it planted throughout the movie, but it's not really a factor. The writers could've used it to explain why Max focused on his dreams so much that he eventually got as wrapped-up in them as he did & developed that subplot a bit more so it doesn't come across as tacked on.
  • This kids parents are in the background just having a divorce I cant with alex 😂😂😂😭😂

I remember my 3,4,5 year old self being really confused and interested in this movie.
