Those have been in Minnesota for as long as I can remember. They are not new to Minnesota I'm 57 years old and my grandmother had beautiful flower and veggie gardens always and these same bugs as long as I remember we're in the soil and they fly in the evenings , they attract to house lights at night. This lady is not the first to have seen them.

These are Not june bugs. They are very small, about 1/3" in length.

Could have something to do with buying all those non-native plants.

I have those same bugs in south Florida. They have always been here and come to the porch light.

We have lots of those June bugs in Texas. I feel sorry for them when they get on their backs and can't get up. I help them turn over. 😊

Pay attention, don’t import plants from other countries and use only natives. Best practice always. We have spotted lantern flies throughout my state that weren’t here at all a little over a year ago. Through watching a YouTube gardening channel, I know there are also jumping worms in your and other states, another invasive and detrimental thing to try and control. It used to be said in medicine that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Still true and applies to many things other things in life too.

I have had them in my garden for about 4 years now here in michigan. They go under ground around my plants during the day and come out to feast at night. They just love my basil! I don't plant basil in the ground anymore and now plant in pots but this summer they have invaded the pot they were growing in! I have to dig around the plants, scoop them up and get rid of them. had to do this many times this summer, sigh.

We have had these bugs for years in south Minneapolis.

I’ve seen them in Plymouth too. They don’t move too fast.

Wonderful garden in a beautiful city.

Pop em with a clipboard then a light tap/crunch with the shoe. Birds will get them in the morning.

I thought these were June bugs? I have seen in my garden many times.. next time I'll capture and send off to Cornell extension here in WNY.

Those look like what we call in TN, 'water bugs'. They show up in the spring and fly around any lights they can find. Their carcasses litter our porches for a few weeks every year.

Gardeners are already battling Japanese beetles, which decimate certain plants and crops. Now this?
