In an exclusive interview with ThePrint, historian Ramachandra Guha talks about his new book, Gandhi : The Years That Changed The World, where he explains India's rapid transition to a Hindu Majoritarian state, the relation between RSS and Mahatma Gandhi, the mistreatment of minorities by the Modi cabinet and how nothing in Modi’s ideological training equips him to admire the Mahatma.

mae toh hamesha ye soch kar heraan hota rehta hun ke jis country, constitution, rights ko ham for granted late rehte he vo kabhi kuch logo ke pure zindagi ka sapna huva karta tha
  • there is no person in this world who has made correct decisions all his life. same goes for gandhi ji.

Gandhi's non violence maybe one of the reason for indian independence but the real reason behind indian independence is Netaji subhash chandra bose's INA in which 26000 soldiers sacrificed their lives for the independence of country. Netaji was the 1st pm of undivided india He took oath as pm on 21st October 1943 called azad hind government. Gandhi was not the only person who fought for independence there were other persons also whom our historians refuse to acknowledge.
  • We admire all those contributed for nation, everyone be it Bose Ji, Nehru ji, Patel Ji, each and everyone. It's past now there is no positive outcome by abusing anyone now. Looking forward without hatred is the best way.

Wow, so many andh-bhakts trying to bash Guha's view. Sure they are bjp pay-role trolls.

Jyotiji’s expressions are of utter shock as she hides behind a smile. On the comment that “happens in marriages after 15-20 years, attraction to others!” Am with you Jyotiji. It is an absurd notion. Totally.
  • I still don't understand how Gamdhiji insisted that our men in the British Indian army should fight in the WW2 8in which We had no stake.it was not an action of Non Violence .was it?

Modi, the RSS Pracharak and Modi, the PM of Bharat are two entirely different personas...... It'll take some time for the critics of Modi to realize this.......

India achieved independence but gandhiji's non violence had the least contribution to it....UK had turned weak and knew that world war 2 had changed the global scenario completely....and british rulers posted in india knew they would not be able leave india in a single piece had they continued few years more after the kind of spirit subhash chandra bose had awakened ....
  • Some idiots in comment section are talking ridiculous about gandhi. I think their parents or grandparents did not participated in freedom movement with gandhi. They might be with RSS who were fighting for British in india.
  • Gandhiji was a great Indian leader . But his non-violence theory is not acceptable to any country in the world . Gandhiji never asked British rulers to be Nonviolent . He asked the Indian revolutioneries to be Nonviolent .
  • gandhi , the greatest figure in modern era . he is only comparable to Buddha, another greatest figure of ancient era.

"His work touched every aspect of Indian life" - to their detriment!
  • What is the name of the anchor? Unable to find it in the description.
  • Mahatma Gandhi in my view who really understood the basics of India he travels whole country and came to know it's problems as well it's solution he found until the villages of this country will not be self reliant till the country will not grow so he emphasized for gram swaraj in it's contrast today policy maker sits in AC room and make policies for rural India without knowing the ground reality
  • Gandhi is one of most painful character in that period of time. He was more dangerous than a Pakistani as he went on to fast for a sum of 50 crore to be paid to pursue terrorist activities n never shed a tear for Hindus who were kicked out of Pakistan during partition. Modi on the other hand hasn't done anything worthwhile even to correct the wrongs even on Waqf laws. Sanghis too become silent Ramchandra Guha is one the best who are suppressing the truth n write selective parts. I never miss an opportunity to see how much these hide than expose!!
  • @PrathameshMone
And Congress admire Mahatma Gandhi and walks and talks its principles...duhhh....
