Only in theaters December 15. #WonkaMovie

Based on the extraordinary character at the center of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Roald Dahl’s most iconic children’s book and one of the best-selling children’s books of all time, “Wonka” tells the wondrous story of how the world’s greatest inventor, magician and chocolate-maker became the beloved Willy Wonka we know today.

From Paul King, writer/director of the “Paddington” films, David Heyman, producer of “Harry Potter,” “Gravity,” “Fantastic Beasts” and “Paddington,” and producers Alexandra Derbyshire (the “Paddington” films, “Jurassic World: Dominion”) and Luke Kelly (“Roald Dahl’s The Witches”), comes an intoxicating mix of magic and music, mayhem and emotion, all told with fabulous heart and humor. Starring Timothée Chalamet in the title role, this irresistibly vivid and inventive big screen spectacle will introduce audiences to a young Willy Wonka, chock-full of ideas and determined to change the world one delectable bite at a time—proving that the best things in life begin with a dream, and if you’re lucky enough to meet Willy Wonka, anything is possible.

Starring alongside Chalamet are Calah Lane (“The Day Shall Come”), Emmy and Peabody Award winner Keegan-Michael Key (“The Prom,” “Schmigadoon”), Paterson Joseph (“Vigil,” “Noughts + Crosses”), Matt Lucas (“Paddington,” “Little Britain”), Mathew Baynton (“The Wrong Mans,” “Ghosts”), Oscar nominee Sally Hawkins (“The Shape of Water,” the “Paddington” films, “Spencer”), Rowan Atkinson (the “Johnny English” and “Mr. Bean” films, “Love Actually”), Jim Carter (“Downton Abbey”), with Oscar winner Olivia Colman (“The Favourite”). The film also stars Natasha Rothwell (“White Lotus,” “Insecure”), Rich Fulcher (“Marriage Story,” “Disenchantment”), Rakhee Thakrar (“Sex Education,” “Four Weddings and a Funeral”), Tom Davis (“Paddington 2,” “King Gary”) and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith (“Paddington 2,” “Zack Snyder’s Justice League,” “Mary Poppins Returns”).

Simon Farnaby (“Paddington 2”) & Paul King wrote the screenplay, based on a story by King and characters created by Roald Dahl. Michael Siegel, Cate Adams, Rosie Alison and Tim Wellspring are serving as executive producers. King’s behind-the-scenes creative team includes director of photography Chung-Hoon Chung (“Last Night in Soho,” “Ah-ga-ssi”); Oscar-nominated production designer Nathan Crowley (“Tenet,” “Dunkirk”); editor Mark Everson (the “Paddington” films); Oscar-winning costume designer Lindy Hemming (the “Paddington” films, “Topsy-Turvy”); and composer Joby Talbot (the “Sing” films). Neil Hannon of the band The Divine Comedy is writing original songs for the film.

Warner Bros. Pictures Presents, in Association with Village Roadshow Pictures, a Heyday Films Production, a Paul King Confection, “Wonka,” set to open in theaters and in IMAX internationally beginning in December 2023 and in North America on December 15, 2023; it will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures.

Hugh Grant being cast as the Oompa Loompas is not something we wanted but something we needed

i'm a simple man, i saw Rowan Atkinson running and screaming, i put this on the must watch list.
  • "Every good thing in this world started with a dream, so you hold on to yours." This really touched me.

I cried at the end, not because of a happy ending, but because I've been watching Willy Wonka movie about aa hundred times and this sequel reminded me of my childhood
  • I didn’t think I’d get to see an third installment of Wonka in my lifetime. I’m 72 years old and I will be watching this film at the theaters!

To be fair Paddington is a masterclass in directing and storytelling

My favorite scene in this movie is when Willy fights "The Unknown" and sucks him into a vacuum.
  • My favorite part is when Wonka added a little too much spice and started dreaming about leading a group of desert folks to paradise 👍

When I was a child the original Charlie and the chocolate factory was my favorite movie. I would watch it every day multiple times a day and make my whole family watch with me. Most of my family got tired of me asking them to rewatch it for the 100th time but my grandma never did. She always watched it with me, sung the songs, and rehearsed the lines with me. she never got tired of it. Earlier this year she passed away and I wish I could see this with her but when it comes out I will go see it in honor of her with a empty seat next to me just for her. Edit: I didn’t mean the one with Johnny Depp I meant the original movie with Gene Wilder just forgot it was named Willy wonka and the chocolate factory instead of Charlie and the chocolate factory.
  • Every character I've seen Timothée Chalamet play is usually soft-spoken and reserved ... so it's kind of odd to see him in an energetic role like this. At the end of the day, though? It looks like a cute, lighthearted, family-friendly flick that people'll take their kids to during the holidays. Wouldn't be surprised if it ended up doing really well...

Honestly this is a good movie even when others seem to dislike it. It’s cute and it explains the way he is in the original and why he acts the way he does towards Charlie
  • Honestly it's nice to see a heartwarming movie coming to theaters for a change. I feel like the cast and crew had a lot of fun with Wonka
  • The simple fact that this is directed by the guy who did the two Paddington movies is enough to get me to watch this. Those films were absolute masterpieces of performances, storytelling and direction.
  • Finally! A movie about the history of diabetes and cancer. This should be educational!
  • Just saw this movie yesterday and it was fantastic!!!! There was more singing that I thought there'd be, but it was seamlessly integrated and never took you out of the story. The effects and references were perfect, and truly made for an excellent origin story of Wonka! An absolute joy to watch (especially for choco-holics!).

Even if it's minor role, it's always a joy seeing Rowan Atkinson in films. Can't wait to see this one, the film captures the spirit of the source material so well ❤

"From the Director of Paddington" I'm sold, those movies are cinematic masterpieces

Was expecting a Johnny Depp take on Willy Wonka but Chalamet nailed it. I know people thinking he's overrated but what an actor!
