Zero attack and zero release, that's where the funk is 😁👍
  • Best intro ever! "...he's the f%ckin' Maltese Falcon. And it's a f%ckin' Friday..."  Solid Jack.  Solid.
  • @yokeshhsekoy
Jack, I'm a guitarist and just starting to mess with synths and keyboards. And this really helped me to get started on clavs. Especially the tap the table bit! Great stuff! Keep em coming!
  • Definitely do another vid with some more advanced clay techniques!!! This is great! Loved when you went to the key of C for a bit
  • Genius but blind...Probably shouldn't have, but cracked me the heck up.
  • @dgsoundCA
Thank you sooo much for doing this video, Jack! 🙏🤘
  • @B3burner
I never have made sense of clav. When you talked about the dry, unadorned style, I definitely thought of myself. I hope to eventually get better at it, with the help of this video & others.
  • Brilliant vid!!! Great on every level, as always great playing
  • @Bassbarbie
Really useful, thanks. I'm looking at getting my first keyboard and have been in a dilemma over weighted keys so this really helps. I've been watching loads of your videos and have now subscribed :)

Knowledge bombs 💣- These videos are amazing, keep em coming!!!
  • @wojtczyk
Thank you for this, Jack. I learned a lot - as always.
  • @JeffPalmer83
Great video! It occurred to me during this how similar this can be to basic poly synth sound with a basic “organ envelope” (ie 0 attack, 0 release) and then maybe a bit of a resonant filter envelope for Wah-like effect. Playing style can work for both!
  • @boyesm
Awesome video man, Please do more synth playing technique videos like this. I found this really useful, and was jamming on my Clav in no time! 🎹😎🙂
  • I know a clavinet's sound when I hear it, but I hadn't put much thought into style or technique and how it's different. Aside from Stevie Wonder, I often hear it in the 70s songs from ELO - Evil Woman, Last Train to London, etc. and now I get how it's 'pokey' as you described it, as well as some of the other effects added to it. Nice video.
  • Nice video!! Besides this rhythmic playing, emulating fingerpicking guitar patterns on the clav is also great. "Big Brother" or "Happier Than The Morning Sun" by Stevie are clear examples of this underrated technique!
  • @apislapis
Excellent Jack. Now I know how to get that funky space duck sound. Thanks.
  • Great job Jack… very interesting even for non-keyboard player 👍🏼👍🏼👏🏼😊
  • @JonMurray
Such a good video man!!! I’m away to bang on a clav plugin and start drumming away! Cheers guys!
  • @jjhcw
    Very helpful, Thanks!
