You have to watch this movies 2 times, first time its just fun, 2'dn time all whats said gets a whole new mening. In the start when Maddie is told "are you sure he wants to have sex with you in your current condition" is referring to the fact that she lost both her perents, her farther never wanted to have anything to do with her, and as a result she is having an unhealthy relationship with men, and in general i not able to commit to people, haveing no real frinds, and so she and percy are the same, but for different reasons. Her mother just died and she have been taken care of her, since she was 18 because she was termally ill, so her life has been stoped for those 10 years, and in a way, she is stuck, just like in a chinese finger trap that she cant get out of, but Percey helps her out, and suggest she should go live her life, as he says "The only reason she have never left, is becaue she is waiting for her father to come back" As Maddie is told yearlier, she is not able to maintain any relation ship, and as a result is "the kinf of people, they would usually take a dog from", but as she has grown, she is now able to adopt Milo, she wants this dog, because its "the most fucked up", just like her. She moves to LA in the end, and that has a reference back to another place in the film, where she said her dream was to go surfing on most of the CA beaches, and there are over 400 publick beaches there, so she will be dooing this over some years, its going to be this massive roadtrip, that will be funded by the money she got from selling the house, so she will most likely rent some places on the way, but not buy a new house. Percey will spend 3-4 years in UNI, and she will spend 3-4 years surfing, and as they will be done with that in just about the same time, there is a chance that they will run into eatchother in about 3-4 years from when the movie ends. That is suggested by the song "you will accompany me" and although they put out the fire quite literally in the end scenes, and turned it into friendship, there is no question they love eatch other as friends, if that will turn romantic some day is yeat unknow, but Maddie probles Percey in the end with saying "she has a new boyfriend", to see if he still have feelings for her, and is happy to see that he does, it turnes out to be the dog Milo, she also probe herself with trying to have sex with a stranger from the Bar, and finds out then, that she still have feelings for Percey. Jennifer lawrence and Andrew barth feldman have said that they are friends and love each other, but they both have boyfriend and girlfriend, so not in a romantic way but expect to be friends for life, so perhaps that is also what is going to happen in the movie.
