Many friends did not understand the meaning of plastic bottles in this project, it is plastic bottles that are the main part of the project, a thin veneer is glued to them, without them it does not hold its shape and is very fragile, and plastic bottles shine through from the inside, unlike plastic pipes.

If you sand the plastic with a low- to medium-grain sandpaper (I'd start with 160 and work my way up until the desired finish is achieved), it will make it hazier which gives a diffusive effect to the light you put through it. That way you won't see the individual lights nearly as much as with clear plastic and the wood, especially if you do it on both sides before applying the wood veneer. It is also possible to achieve a similar diffusion using privacy adhesive panels with a frosted finish, which are often used on windows to give more privacy in a room while still letting sunlight through. Layering these methods can give even more impressive results, but it also lessens the amount of light coming through with each layer you add. My ideal design for this idea would incorporate the diffusion effects, but also use a longer LED strip, either run lengthwise back and forth down the tubing or in a tighter spiraling pattern, both of which would help in giving a more uniform light output through the full length of the lamp.

As an electronics hobbiest AND as a wood worker, you inspire countless projects and solutions to other problems/issues. Never thought of plastic bottles as shrinkable tubing.
  • Would be a complete waste of time and effort if it didn't get over 10 million views.

Not many times I watch a craft video without being able to guess the project... YOUR video surprised and delighted me with it's simplicity of build and sheer beauty... I was enjoying the veneer work, and I was utterly surprised by the twist (figurative) at the end with the LED's through veneer.. So enjoyable and beautiful. thanks

Very creative and imaginative work and reuse of materials!
  • @tbucknor
Very Mid-Century Modern looking, and very involved, however, a stunning result. Thanx for sharing.

  • @sujadutta
This is a lot of work indeed. But the ultimate result gives you a sense of satisfaction because its your own creation. That is the greatest thing about DIYs. Great job buddy. 👏👏👏

If you have 15 unnecessary minutes of your life to throw away watching this video.
