So sad to see jasper town like this. Been there in November 2022. One of my best trips in my life.

Every summer when my brothers and I were kids, the family would pile into the car and hit the road from Fort Saskatchewan to Banff, Lake Louise and Jasper. I have such fond memories of those simple, beautiful trips and this just breaks my heart.

This is truly heartbreaking. That was my favorite place..

My dad told me decades ago, when I was just a child, that the forest fire issue would get worse and worse due to constant suppression. Here we are.

Leaving the dead trees from the pine beetle infestation was a big mistake.

Why is she sad? She defunded the forest fighting budget.... is she feeling guilty?

Such a sad day for Canada, my heart goes out to all of Jasper🙏

Things have to change. All Western towns are going to have to have mandatory fir breaks around them as permanent features.
  • I don’t understand why they don’t have fire breaks around towns that are surrounded by forest

"Cuts to Alberta wildfire fighting include rappel attack program, pay and staff. In November 2019, the UCP cut funding for the Rappel Attack Program (RAP), a firefighting program in Alberta that ran for nearly forty years"

I feel sad... I was there 2 years ago. The beautiful scenery of Jasper was one of the best I visited.

This is a failure on the mayor of Jasper not preparing after the close call they had last year. This should have been the biggest priority last fall and this spring. I’m blown away at the how unprepared they were.

Sadly we've watched Fort McMurray x 2, Slave Lake and now Jasper go up in flames because we have this giant tinder box of forest that isn't being managed properly. Whatever happened to managing the dry/dead vegetation on the forest floor? Or clearing a buffer zone around these towns? We had 3 months of cool weather and rain, then 2 weeks of hot + dry and this is what happens.

Town of Banff and town of Jasper are the two most beautiful mountain towns in Alberta. It’s heartbreaking to see this town is burned down.

Sad, but on a positive note, it is raining all over the area today and looks as if it may continue until tomorrow. Same with Silverton New Denver area. A sad state but there is the rain today. Hard at times. This will help.
