“Paulie might have moved slow, but it was only because Paulie didn’t have to move for anybody.” - Henry Hill

Then later on in prison you see that Paulie could have EASILY run a restaurant if he wanted to.

Every scene with Paulie is pure gold. There is something so captivating about his performance.

"Tommy is a bad kid,a bad seed." he's not a kind and considerate mobster like the rest of them

One of the best extortion scenes ever. I didn't get that the first time I saw it. Tommy and Henry had probably been working Sonny for months, Tommy intimidating him and Henry gaining his confidence. All just to drive Sonny to Pauli, who was waiting patiently to take over the restaurant. Sorvino was terrific in this scene. Those side looks toward Henry -- priceless. And that line, "It's not even fair." Again, priceless.
  • What am I supposed to do shoot him? -Well it wouldn’t be a bad idea. -Paulie: 👁👄👁

Paul Sorvino is so fucking masterful in this scene...his expressions and little slight shrugs basically saying " Whadda ya want from me?"😂😂😂 fucking classic

2:10 "It's not even fair!" Hilarious as Paulie is going to make thousands upon thousands of dollars and leave Sonny poor.

Everyone knows Paulie is great, but the actor who plays the restaurant owner is sensational...he is driving the scene, Paulie is mostly reacting....the owner of the restaurant is so real, you just take him for granted, it's hard to think he's an actor! His name is Frank Pellegrino, and he owned a restaurant in NYC. Also was a singer, like Paulie.

The looks to Henry like "Can you believe this guy?" are priceless.
  • Classic mob extortion, send in a guy to bully a business owner and have him come to you for protection and then make it his idea for you to own his business
  • I"v watched Goodfellas over 100 times. And now I have to live the rest of my life like a schmuck!

"It's not even fair." That line cracks me up. What a terrific scene!

Sorvino's "what the hell do I know?" fake sideways look at Henry slays me every time. I love this scene.

In Wiseguy, the book on which this movie was based, it talks about how Tommy and Henry were supposed to go into these restaurants and cause as much of a ruckus and as much trouble as possible. Hence when Tommy says to Henry in the restaurant "you're supposed to be doing this stuff too, y'know". They would thereby drive the owner to seek protection from Paulie Vario who was the Lucchese capo in that area at that time. In exchage for protection Paulie gets part ownership of the restaurant, then squeezes money from them, extending their line of credit to obtain (and sell) what is to them, free merchandise. Finally they burn the restaurant and keep the insurance money. The owner had no obligation to Paulie until he came to Paulie to seek protection, and his actions were induced by the actions of Henry and Tommy among others, actions Paulie himself had suggested they engage in. The book is excellent and I would highly recommend it.

Genius casting Sorvino. He embodies that character. Owns every scene he is in.
