Bloodborne - Gehrman, the First Hunter

Published 2024-01-08
Theme of Gehrman, one of the three possible final bosses of Bloodborne, the other two being Mergo's Wet Nurse and the Moon Presence. This song is really sad, and I think it's one of my favorite video game songs ever. Gehrman is forever trapped in the Hunter's Dream, a realm created by the Moon Presence using Gehrman's memories. He serves as a guide for the player, providing them with knowledge and tools. He also created the Plain Doll that assists the Hunter with leveling up. There is a random chance that the player can find Gehrman sleeping, crying and asking someone, anyone, to help him be free from the Hunter's Dream. He is old, lonely, and tired of his eternal imprisonment in the dream. At the end of the game, Gehrman offers the player mercy by killing them in the Dream, which would allow them to awake under the morning sun in the real world, untethered to the Moon Presence. The player can choose to submit, or they can choose to fight and kill Gehrman, at which point the player becomes his replacement, sitting in the same wheelchair and allowing the Moon Presence to continue puppeteering the hunt forever more (unless you've consumed three umbilical cords and have the power to fight the Moon Presence).
