AliExpress may be the purveyor of cheap goods around the world, and some of these good may be acceptable, but the SSDs are not. A Discord member sent us two SSDs from AliExpress, a $3 SATA drive along with an $8 NVMe train wreck. The process sent Brian into a spiral which ended in uncontrollable rage. Both drives are terrible in their own special ways. In this video we break it all down.

TLDR - Do not buy these drives!

Actually been loving this saga. The outrage. The pure disdain. Like handing a Michelin star restaurant sommelier a boxed wine.

I use this drive myself and I have no issues whatsoever. To be fair, I am using it in an older machine where fast IO would not have a big effect.

"Fir" is one of the three types of tree you'd call a Christmas tree. Other two are spruce and pine. Golden Fir is a nice name. Thank you for the informative video. 🙂

Even my crucial cheap drive gets super slow when there is constant writes. I think every cheap drive regardless of the brand acts the same way.

I use one in my laptop since 2019. I formatted it and installed windows 10 two or three times, windows 11, linux mint, I used it to play various games on windows, used it for work, play media for hours almost daily, it has been nights downloading stuff because of a shitty internet and it still works like a champ, bought another to use it as an external drive and the same goes for it... I mean, they work just fine

I have used these drives for some of my builds and I can confirm that they are a gamble. At least one in every 5 discs is corrupted right out of the box.

I would love to see this thing go up against a cheap external and an internal hdd in performance to prove a point of just getting an older 128gb hdd to show off its probably not even fast enough or even more reliable to just get an hdd instead with the same capacity.
  • @MikeKirkReloaded
Refurb HDDs are around $10/TB. I bet this class of flash drive will be the first to beat that price, with actual working capacity, even if the performance is terrible. I have some read-rarely data: I'd try them :)

What am I going to stuff the Trick-or-Treat plastic Jack-o-Lantern with at the front counter now?
  • @PQSxSins
"extreme storage degenerates..." 😂 as an ex USB flash drive goblin I feel attacked 😂
  • @dogsauce19
Were you able to test if it works with an hdd led? Noticed some cheaper aliexpress ssd's wouldn't light up the hdd led while others would light up just fine.
  • @infinitytec
Well, it's been fun. Now off to spend $9 or more on an SSD.
  • Reminds me of how Adata SU630 did me dirty. The slowest ssd that opened my eyes 💔
  • @RHTORAS
Please show us how kodak and lenovo from AliExpress ssds work like. This is a challenge imho. Thanks...
  • @XEONvE
not much ppl are rich and can effort top end parts.. I find it running ok after 1 years of using. I got four 1TB SSD, each 30$... Raid 0 and used it for storing steam games... runs find... at 60% capacity. avg read speed 1200MB/s and write speed 300MB/s.. yes the write speed takes a hit for raiding ssd.. but serves my purpose for ~120$ for 4TB.
  • @hariranormal5584
Sorry but, it's not fair to compare a 960G drive to a 120G drive anyway. Perhaps try those benchmarks with a 1TB Aliexpress ssd too, then it'll be fair

Remember one thing. You are under no obligation to try a product if you feel it may have dangerous software on it or have even heard that the maker of it is known for dangerous software or just plain fake drives. The worst thing that could happen is it is so badly made it damages your computer. You should put a disclaimer up that if anyone sends you something with malware or something so shoddily made it ruins your computer you will sue them for ALL damages to your computers that it has caused!!

Yooooooooo!!! I bought 2 of these SSD to test some games and tbh, it way faster than my 7200 RPM HDD 💀 Tried with games that are tagged for SSD only (Nakara) and runs perfectly well lol.
  • @Chris-yc3mm
For me the price on these things is now around $9 a drive
  • @PCMasterX
Why didn't you choose the Kingston A400 120gb for comparison? 😉
