I tell the story behind the sometimes beloved, but more often laughed-at third entry in the "Jaws" film franchise: "JAWS 3-D" (1983). I delve deep into its development, production and legacy, while providing my own thoughts about the film. Directed by Joe Alves. Starring: Dennis Quaid, Louis Gossett Jr. and Bess Armstrong.

Fun fact: As of 2019, the dolphin who played Sandy, actually a male named Capricorn, is still alive and resides at Sea World in Orlando.
  • Not going to lie...I adore this movie. It's like a cheesy 1980s summertime version of Jurassic Park, and I'm here for it.

At 53:25 you notice in the movie listing that Raiders of the Lost Ark was still in theaters in 1983. It was released 2 full years earlier. Back then these blockbuster movies lingered in theaters for a long time, often playingover and over in the .99 cent theaters. It was a magical time.

I can't wait for the story of "Jaws: The Revenge" (1987).

It's a shame we never got to see Jaws 3 People 0. But, I'll admit, Jaws 3D is my preferred sequel over Jaws The Revenge.

Ridiculously excited about Jaws the Revenge video. Seeing that on opening day left scars.

I really enjoy this movie. Especially since it's Jaws at Sea World, a really awesome concept. It has its problems, but now it's like its predecessor films. It's a full on B movie now, and that's not a bad thing.
  • I love this movie, I see it just as a camp classic, it’s a guilty pleasure and I’ve watched it far more times than I can remember 😂

This played constantly on HBO when I was a kid. Being about 8, I probably watched it every time it was on. At that age you don’t know it’s bad, you just love sharks. I also had that pleather e.t. stuffed animal, lol.

My friend, you are the MASTER in making documentaries that are great companion pieces to classic films! Personally, if JAWS 2 and JAWS 3 get another blu ray release, your documentaries on both films would be outstanding additions. Especially for JAWS 3, which is always bare bones. I think JAWS 2 has a featurette about the making of, but I found your documentary more informative if I am comparing to two. Another spectacular job on the JAWS franchise! Cheers!

This film is my childhood. I have seen it more times than I can count! I LOVE it!

I remember seeing this blurry mess a lot on TV when I was a younger, even as a kid I knew it was trash. Thank you for reminding me of the weird dancing dolphins at the end.

Alan Parker's score is definitely one of the few highlights of this movie. It captures the SeaWorld atmosphere in such a brilliant way. It is very unique but still holds onto enough of John Williams's original work on the first two films. The music, for me, is so memorable that it actually makes a few scenes in the film enjoyable. It has become one of my favorite underappreciated scores. Bravo to Parker!

Nothing screams "deadly shark movie" like smooth jazz.
  • I viewed this in the theater as a very young child when released. The nostalgia is there. I had a blast. Summer. Cold theater. Junk food. 3D Bruce eating people. I will say its my 3rd fav with Revenge taking the top spot as the pure bomb stinker. For the record.. i would go and see 100 Jaws movies using practical effects/mechanical sharks. You build it, i will come.
  • Jaws 3 is not the worst film in the franchise, that distinction belongs to Jaws the Revenge (part 4). Where they messed up was the whole 3-D aspect, which was big at the time. I believe there were several more movies that came out the same year that used the 3-D gimmick. Also, the studio insisted having one of the Brodys in the film. I actually kinda like the idea of the movie taking place inside a theme park. I would have liked for the body count be higher but I believe Sea World was against the idea. Additionally, part 3 has the best orchestral soundtrack. All in all this is still one of my favorite shark movies. It was the first Jaws movie that I saw in theaters and I've been fascinated and terrified of sharks since then.

The mother shark in Jaws 3-D is the one that visits me in my nightmares. Bruce from the original film is by far the most effective model, but for some reason the over exaggerated size of the shark in 3 is the one that I fear is lurking in the waters of my dreams.

I love Jaws 3D. It's a fun movie! I got to see it in 3D at a local theater a few years ago, and it was great! Besides... Lea Thompson is a bikini? Yes, please.

The John Hughes script for Jaws 3, People 0 has been floating around for a while. Worth the read. Great video as always.

I really like Bess Armstrong, as she is talented and gave a good performance in this movie. She made it more watchable.
