Joel and Luke Smallbone of the band For King & Country and their sister Rebecca St. James talk about their autobiographical film “Unsung Hero,” which details their childhood move from Australia to the United States, the unforeseen circumstances that led to the family of nine facing poverty, and the children's rise to being two of the most successful musical acts in the world of Christian music. Jase is forced to apologize for assuming that the movie would be a typically cheesy Christian movie, but he finds himself absolutely loving it! Al can’t help but see the similarities between their own difficult past and the incredible journey of the Smallbone family.

I remember Rebecca came to sing at our church in Texas back in the 90’s and several of her brothers were running around all over the place setting things up. My oldest daughter just loved hanging around listening to their accents. I think most of the crew was family and just the nicest down to earth people.
  • This was such a beautiful episode. I love how your guests honored one another and how much gratitude the men expressed for their sister. What a great example! Their connection and love can be felt through the screen.

  • I went to a concert of theirs with my husband a few years ago at River City Amp with Newsboys, they told their story and it was SO touching. The sacrifice their parents made for them and the miracles that happened!

This is a bittersweet episode for me; I'm an adopted member of the Robertson family so I'm insanely blessed to have brothers there for me...but if y'all could pray for me because my biological family is NOT at all connected; my own sibling has at one point tried to kill me and now is bottom feeding off my mother, who suffers from the onset of Alzheimer's... Its bittersweet to hear this family say that the boys eventually bonded as brothers like they should because my own hates me...but I'm extremely grateful to be a Robertson by initiation. Thank you for praying for me, y'all. And thank you for reading this.

  • Just an old crane operator slinging steel slabs all day. You guys bring me to tears. I guess I’m getting over. I’m so thankful for the touch of the Lord. His love is so gentle on pure and beautiful. It tends to pop up during your guises show, for me. Now you tell me, what words could I use to express such gratitude?

The first time heard of For King and Country was last December. I was blessed enough to see their concert just 5 days later in Las Vegas! What amazing entertainers! I’m still playing their Christmas songs in Spring.

Love your podcast ❤ Looking forward to watching both yours and King and Country's movie
  • I can say I cried so many times watching the movie..how much courage it took for them to travel as a family.. the apologies from the parents and helping the kids believe through their struggles.. As a widow and mother of three(2sons and a daughter) all married now but not serving the Lord they were raised with. 🙏Thank you so much for the movie..
