The majestic Italian Navy tall ship Amerigo Vespucci is visiting the Port of Los Angeles for six consecutive days starting yesterday, July 3. Free tours were available, and adjacent to the ship was an expansive “Villaggio Italia,” an Italian village featuring cultural food, music, art, and activities.

The historic sailing ship and training vessel of the Italian Navy, the Amerigo Vespucci, is docked at Berth 46 in the Port’s Outer Harbor. Tour reservations were required and could be made online.

Next to the vessel, the Villaggio Italia featured a "Piazza Italia" square with pavilions offering daily performances, exhibitions, food, and film, all meant to capture the soul and beauty of Italy. The village was open daily from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., except for Wednesday, July 3 (4-10 p.m.), and Monday, July 8 (9 a.m.-1 p.m.).

Highlights of the six-day event included:

Frecce Tricolori, the Italian Air Force's National Aerobatic Team, performed an air show above the Amerigo Vespucci at specific times.
Screenings of internationally successful Italian films, selected by the Venice Biennale’s Mostra Internazionale del Cinema della Biennale di Venezia, took place on the evenings of July 4-7.
Visitors were able to enjoy cuisine from Eataly’s “Ristorante Italia,” as well as cooking sessions, conferences, tastings, and an immersive exhibition.
Daily music performances were given by the Carabinieri’s Fanfara Cadet Team.
The Amerigo Vespucci had begun a two-year world tour the previous summer and had visited 15 countries on three continents. Following its Los Angeles visit, the vessel was set to travel to Japan, Australia, India, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.
