In this video Byron's painting a tester for his army, talking a lot about colour theory, ignoring his own advice (forgetting to add green), and carefully spending 10minutes pre-shading and then deleting it all at once!

This video is packed with miniature painting tips, especially those that'll help any of you painting an army fast, how to go about doing a test model (ALWAYS a good idea), or improving the efficiency of your painting, particularly relevant to those painting larger Warhammer 40k or Warhammer AOS armies!

As ever - it's fine to make mistakes, it is how you learn, and is one of the best parts of this hobby!

  • Mistakes are a way of life, great to see them - even better to show working through them to still create! Thanks and well done.
  • @S2uBuGaming
Excellent video as Always Byron. I always love the fact you include mistakes into your cuts too many other channels cut all errors so the average painter feels when they make a mistake they are rubbish. It is good to know even the greats get things wrong! Keep up the great work Byron, cannot wait for the next lockdown army video, or indeed any other video. As a suggestion for future videos how about tackling more on the sculpting with greenstuff / milliput. I know you have used it in the lockdown army models, but more detail on best ways of achieving texture etc would be great. Keep up the great content and stay safe dude!

I never learned about colour theory and only knew about complementaries. Thank you so much for these well taught classes, it's great to show that even a great painter like you can make mistakes and that it's about learning !
  • @PainterIdeas
From all channels, tutorials and step by step guides you can get your hands and eyes into, nothing will teach you faster than mistakes. Great simple approach to color theory.
  • Really cool video, always fun when you delve into colour theory. I actually went and bought that very colour wheel after watching your live stream of doing the necron flyer way back before you had all these wonderful production quality videos because that scheme was so beautiful. Bet the scheme from this flesh hound will look amazing across an army, and especially on the big boy models too!
  • From every guide ive watched so far i have to say your insights into why colours behave the way they do with each other is incredible and im sure hard won after years of experience. If you havent done a guide to citadel contrast paints yet (the best ways to use each how they cover etc) i for one would find it invaluable, though perhaps after working through your backlog you will have mentioned each one in passing anyway heh. Great work ty for your tutorials - none of this existed when i started out and i quit painting several times because of failed attempts. These vids genuinely teach me more in ten mins than i learned in years.

Very helpful tutorial and explanation of colour theory. Keep up the good work.

that is far and away the clearest and simplest explanation of colour theory that I have ever seen, many thanks! I actually feel like I understand this now! Unfortunately I do have a small nagging thought that I should probably go back and paint some of my more important models properly because absolutely zero proper colour theory was used the first time around, I just made it up as I went and messed about with stuff until I found a scheme that I liked!
  • @draadhaai
Very nice Byron! Thanks for the explanation.
  • @wrongdoer5053
I’m excited for this!!! Color theory is still new to me seeing how you go after your blends will be helpful as always!!! I’ve been practicing my space marine color schemes on some aos dwarves! I have a few “space marine” dwarves and they actually work lol! Cheers bro!
  • @cadderley100
We all make mistakes. It's owning up to them and making it right that's the important part.
  • @jmc7034
Thank you so much for explaining this topic. It looks like it’s worth buying a colour wheel chart in order to help paint my mini’s
  • @BenjisHobbies
I’ve never used colour theory to decide on a paint scheme before. I just tend to look at two colours and think, hey, that’s a cool combination! I’ll definitely do a bit more research in to it before my next video though - thanks for the advice!
  • @EssexBoyz
Nice explanation of colour theory. Also nice to see you showing even the pros slip up occasionally. There’s hope for us mere mortal brush lickers after all. 😃👍🏼
