My grandfather told me that his home town, Tilburg in the Netherlands, was liberated by the Scottish. The first thing they heard in November 1944 was a bagpipes in the far distance a very soft humming sound that came nearer. He told me that everybody went outside to see where the sound was coming from. There the Scottish arrived to officially liberate the city. My grandfather always held very dear memories to the Scots who liberated him, his family, his community, the city where I live. We're still very grateful and associate the bagpipes with liberation and freedom.

I’m not even Scottish but I would rise up and fight to this song

I‘m German and the Scottish culture has a special place in my heart, I love the kilts, the bagpipes, the Highland Games and the scenery. It is all so incredibly beautiful. Hats off to all the Scottish lads who keep that wonderful tradition alive and appreciate their culture in such a wonderful way.

I'm an American with Scottish roots and all I can think of is how much of an honor and a privilege it would be just to see this in person. I'm moved in so many ways

I don't know why, but bagpipes always makes me really emotional.
  • As they say: "When you hear the pipes approaching, help or death is on you."

I’m English/Welsh and the pipes and drums stir something deep within me. My Welsh Mum often said that although she and my Dad had travelled to 42 countries she never felt closer to god than when she was in Scotland. This brings tears to my eyes.

My grandfather was a drummer in a pipe band when I was a kid and I remember going to Dunblane in the 80's and watching him and listening to him playing it was amazing I still love listening to the music to this day it takes me back to my childhood, oh they were the days I wish to go back and see it all again
  • I'm from Brazil, my soul has a lovely connection to the Scottish traditions. The sound of bagpipes makes me emotional, everytime. I appreciate from Sir Walter Scott to Haggis passing by great Alexander McCall Smith! One day I will go visit this land of wonders!

Two days ago I was walking my dog in Redondo Beach, California and was stunned to encounter a lone bagpiper playing away alongside the bicycle path. I was awed! It was beautiful!
