10,000 years ago predator and prey were divided until they bound together and determined they would break their hierarchy set before them by nature. With predators consuming bugs, prey and predator could finally work together instead of living a part in fear. Without the constant primitive fight or flight mentality of the world, animals could suddenly look long term into the future allowing them to establish culture, technology and an industrialized society; their crowning achievement of course being Zootopia, but this isn’t the story of all animals though. This is only the story of mammals, but why is that?

According to the creators, there were habitats in Zootopia planned for them, but they weren't important to the story and ended up cut to save time. So there are reptiles and birds in Zootopia, we just never saw them.

You know what bothered me the most about Zootopia? A sheep is the same size as a rabbit.

There's a song lyric in "Try Everything" that goes "Birds don't just fly, they fall down and get up." That tells me birds exist in this world and Gazelle at least finds them admirable.
  • personally i think that reptiles of this world would live in small but sprawling communities with water ways for semi-aquatic inhabitants with birds being something similar to the Anasazi people with special climate barriers to for cold or warm climate birds with water ways and roads for flightless birds such as penguins ostriches etc. and one question that bugs me is where are the dolphins whales and other permanently water-bound mammals

I never saw a house pet like a dog or cat. I saw wolfs and many big cats but no house pets

I remember the directors Rich Moore and Byron Howard were asked about this. They said it was for story practicality since it was about predator and prey. Among mammals, there were more prey than predators but when you include birds and reptiles, it gets confusing as in those groups, everything eats everything else.
  • The concept of the birds and reptiles creating a city separate from the mammals is an interesting theory. Same goes for the theory of the reptiles developing at a different rate compared to the mammals. Also—random thought—the overhead shot of the city of Zootopia looks similar to the islands of Mata Nui and Metru Nui in the original Bionicle series with its different zones.

We wanna some reptiles, birds and marine animals for sequel?
  • I think the Mammals thought the birds were too smart for them, and dissed them off, and that’s why the birds created a new society, with themselves and all mammals who DIDN’T want to be in Zootopia (dogs, cats, bats, wild dogs, seals, dolphins, whales, and all the animals that weren’t included in the film). The small birds, made an argument that they were afraid that if the reptiles joined Society of United Animals they would get eaten. So, the big “head” birds told the reptiles they couldn’t join. So thennnn the reptiles made a city on an island, far from Zootapia and S.U.A, where they live in the tropics, slowly evolving so that they could make peace with Zootopia and S.U.A, and make a true continent of animals, where they could all live in harmony. The fish? Their society is under the waters, yet to be discovered. This took me forever, thanks for taking the time to read this, and THIS is my theory

There are birds. There is an opening shot of where they live. They are there but just don't appear in the movie.

I wonder how snakes would work. Seeing as many reptiles have finger-like adaptations, and birds have claws and beaks that can grab, how would snakes use tools? Their mouths? They don't even have fully functioning tongues to help them out, like humans would. Would they not be fully sentient, maybe evolved to the point of cats and dogs and kept as pets in the reptile/bird world? And what about fish? Would they need a whole water city to live in? How would they use tools, and houses? Or are they farmed, like insects? Hmmst.
  • @iloveevrywn
I have a pet snake and thus I was sad to see reptiles not represented. Reptiles are under-preserved species because we don't think they're cute. That's a huge problem and this could have been a good chance for them to get a better rep
  • @shawnfennox3837
I really hope that if they make a second movie they include the aspect of reptiles and such :) That would be pretty legit to see!
