This video is so trippy HAHA. Super cool concept from Virtual Riot! I love that you can just keep a straight beat throughout the whole thing and it really just works out! Super fun!

I like how this started as confused drumming but slowly shifted into vibing drumming xD
  • pov: when your uhhmmm uhhhh going to do drums and you uhhh get tripped out from the music too much and you uhhmm uhhh uhmmm

Virtual Riot really said "Its Polyrhythm time" and polyrhythmed over all of us

Virtual Riot is an amazing producer, his Ableton music videos are 🔥af, I especially like the amen break one.

This both works and doesn’t work at the same time, and it makes my brain turn inside-out trying to process it. 😵‍💫

Probably one of the best parts of 8BitDrummer's career is how much cool music he gets to discover from across every genre.
  • @Piemur1
"It's a straight beat, but I man wanna do something different, yanno?" then the drop and he do something different. And had a blast doing it.

The beauty of this is that it shows the true ability of the drums- keeping rhythm- and just how difficult it can be. Moreso in the world of jazz where solos can go to all sorts of extremes, it falls to the drums to hold a steady beat all the way through. It would be extremely difficult to process a rhythm for this song without the drums, 8bitdrummer really is a master of his craft

Close your eyes and imagine each color syncing the polyrhythms, you'll start seeing a spiral

It’s impossible to do anything other than the basic 4/4 because the sequences on top are speeding up and slowing down continually. It’s not one steady polyrhythm, it’s cycling through every polyrhythm.

Virtual Riot is actually insanely good at finding concepts like this and turning them into absolute bangers. For example, there's another video on his channel called "death by amen" where he makes a full song using an amen break. Another example being when he collabed with Andrew Huang for one of his 4 producers 1 sample video and turned a short piano piece into a full complextro song ("Everything here except the drums uses the sample" is what he said). He's got a lot of technical knowledge and it shows.

Man this Virtual Riot is good, he should make a music career out of dubstep or something.
  • @inacio999
I usually don't like polyrhythms but this one is a jam □
  • @WaldoIsahider
Man, once you fell into the proper rhythm you started zoning in. Majestic tune.
  • @TheRealLyrelia
I love seeing your drummer's ear and brain chewing on this song. ^_^ It's super fascinating, huh? I love the shifting patterns, where sometimes it almost doesn't work, but then it becomes something else that does. I like listening to this one while I'm working.

My head feels transported to another universe
  • @zebraforceone
It's such a weird feeling to play at a constant tempo and feel the polyrhythms gradually shift
  • @500werewolf
This feels like it shouldn't work and does work at the same time?!!! WTF?
  • @MODem_sr.
This absolutely sounds like a song my now dead brother would have designed. Dani (Daniel) i miss you so much. Hopefully you now have your peace. Thanks for this trip. It was quite nice.
