Would you dare to leave everything behind and start all over in a country you have never been?

Welcome to northern Sweden! We bought a house (also 100 years old!) last summer 2 hours south of Kalix! We're from the UK, looking forward to following along :)

Just came across this video and saw you talking about the "slimy spiderweb" on the walls. That's actually fungi, so you should definately remove it (WITH CARE, so you don't spread the spores into other areas). Just a heads up from somebody who's worked with this kind of stuff :)

Ooo! Welcome to Sweden!! It will take some time for you to get use to people up norht, but talk to the neighbors and ask about everything. People up north love to help and do understand they are not very talkative. If you ask and are friendly they are going to go thru fire to help you. I grew up in the northern part of Sweden, not as far as Kalix though. What you need to do with the mold in the basement-get some help right away, that is really nasty stuff. Good luck!!

Your vid popped up and looked interesting. I like the look of the house. It sure does need a complete reno though. I am in Australia, never seen snow. I am quite happy about that, looks like quite a pain. Although we have more snow fall on our alps than Switzerland does. That is a crazy thought. Our alps run for 3700 klms, so I guess that explains it. Keep the vids coming. I have subscribed, so I don't miss.

What an exciting adventure, good luck and I will enjoy watching both of you make this house a home.
  • Good luck on your journey. Even as a Swede I wouldn’t dare moving all the way up north. Just an advice if regarding the windows. You might be able to just renovate them and put low-emission glas in the inner window, it would save you a lot of money if you do it yourself, money better spent on a good heating system. Regards,

Hej and welcome! In Sangis 19 km from Kalix lives a couple from Switzerland who run the campsite there.

The mirror on the second floor in bathroom is from the 30s or 40s i think. Most of the furniture is good stuff, and i think you can reuse the most of the floorboards.

Hi guys. Just found your channel. We live in the south of Sweden, but also lived in Härjedalen for a while. Is it in the Kalie you are going to live? Looking forward to follow the renovation 👍🏻 Good luck and don’t be afraid to ask for help. Great people up there!

Good luck with new home! If possible get paper work done. Papers can be done online (w/o help from bank or realtor) and signed where ever owners can meet you (bank office etc..). With ownership execute your plans and remember to make sure frame is okay before building on top of it =).
