Saanen 1984 - Question #2 from Question & Answer Meeting #1

'What is the action of not letting memory intrude? Is it to see its presence as it arises and drop it instantly, or should one be in a state where memory does not raise its head unless it is necessary?'

This channel is managed by the Krishnamurti Foundation Trust, UK, and by the Krishnamurti Foundation of America.

The role of the foundations was described by Krishnamurti when he said, 'The foundations will see to it that these teachings are kept whole, are not distorted, are not made corrupt. They will not give rise to any sectarian spirit in their activities... nor create any kind of place of worship around the teachings or the person.'

We maintain extensive archives of Krishnamurti's original works and all four Krishnamurti foundations are actively engaged in the publication of material in various forms.

Our videos contain thousands of subtitles in more than 25 languages, translated by volunteers from all over the world. If you would like to help us with translating subtitles, please contact us at [email protected]

  • 27:00 if I am attentive there is no reaction, which means that there also is no recording at all (there is nothing to be recorded): I am not there to be recorded. I am my reactions, when there are no reactions, I am not. The body can still have reactions, but when I am aware of these reactions, and I do not react to them, then I am not recorded anymore, I am not there anymore, the one that is constantly judging is not there. I can still have head ache, but if I don't define "headache" as something bad, if I don't react to headache at all, then headache is not something bad anymore!! Without the "ME" headache is not bad nor good, it just is!

It's not very common to see Krishnamurti laughing in videos like this, loveley to see this part of him.

I think I get it. This learning its like to have a pure stance, learning from what you are observing like it is the first time, with your whole attention. It is an infinite learning, this learning doesn't want to reach the end, the conclusion, it wants to keep learning forever about what is being observed. It does not record, its like a river of learning, superpositioning the learning each moment. There is some beauty, some freshness in this act. You have to assume a humble, pure stance like you doesn't know anything, then you are totally open to learn from scratch, learn from zero. Then you will pay attention with your whole being and enter in this non ending process of learning. Its not about reaching conclusions, its about attention and this infinite learning.
  • a couple things for folks listening ... when he says "recording psychologically" he is saying we have recordings in our subconscious mind that are basically NOT reality (and these things hold our mind back from progression). We can stop these things from occurring in the NOW, but based on past items, when they come up, we need to drop them and first realize they are there because of our FEELINGS toward them in the past. We must realize its the combination of feeling + the feelings with these memories (thoughts) that caused them to hit the subconscious in the first place, so you can stop feelings and thoughts now, but for past items that come up, recognize them for what they are and WHY they are recorded and drop them.
  • Memory only records when we're not in full attention. If you live in a state of inattention then you consistently repeat what you record. Since inattention is simply time, choice, anger, worry ect. Those properties are repeated But if your present, Wich is awareness, theirs no way of repeating time and when you have a moment of inattention it is greatly noticed and can be addressed immediately. MEMORY ONLY RECORDS IN OUR INATTENTION
  • Wow 😮. I get goosebumps at the time when he questions the requirement of inwards psychological recording.

Simple mind is the beauty of existence.
  • K leaves me with the silence the way he describes :)
  • I think this video is for good and peace loving people living amidst people who are not so.
  • If i understand this correctly psychological memory refers to "me" which is "I". But "I" is a product "thought" which is of time and memories. Therefore recording memories for psychological events have no meaning when "I" is an illusion itself.
