TASTE SAFE BEACH SAND DIY
You don’t need to go to the beach to make sand castles!
While trying to make cloud dough edible, I made up this taste safe sand recipe by accident. I wasn’t really sure about it at first, but the texture is identical to beach sand when it is a little damp, which is the perfect texture to build with it. Colors come out super vibrant and the best part, you don’t have to be hyper focused on little ones eating it! Even better than real beach sand! This recipe is taste safe because it has a baking component to the flour! Flour is considered raw and unsafe to eat unless it is cooked, that is why it is important to bake it in the oven so that it actually becomes edible.

A great idea is to take this activity outdoors to give it a ore similar experience of being at the beach. Also, it makes clean up a breeze! Just hose down the floor at the end and thats it.

YOU’LL NEED:
-2 Cups flour
-1/4 cup water
-Food coloring
-3oz vegetable oil

INSTRUCTIONS:
♨️ Preheat oven to 300°F.
1. Pour the flour into an oven safe pan.
2. Mix a few drops of food coloring into the water and add to the flour. Mix really well using your hands. Thrust the flour together in between your hands like in the video. You want to have very few clumps.
3. Bake in the oven at 300°F in 10 minute intervals. Remove from the oven every 10 minutes and thrust with your hands. Repeat until dry.
4. Once cool, add vegetable oil. Thrust well with your hands to remove the clumps. Add more or less oil depending on whether it clumps together or not.
5. Place the sand in a large bin and add in some beach toys to make sand castles 😍👙
