I Need YOUR Help! Help Me Decide Which Oil Tank To Fabricate for My Turbo EZ30R! | Blasphemy 109

Published 2024-04-22
Ok...so which tank should I make? Hit me in the comments!
Tank #1: Aluminum Box, between the turbos
Tank #2: Stainless tubes mounted under turbos
Tank #3: Aluminum Tube Mounted Under Turbos
They will all test my fab skills...but what should I make?

This is a Porsche 911 restoration that was abandoned in 1994 after being converted to a race car. My plan is a twin turbo Subaru EZ30 porsche engine swap with 400+ HP to the wheels. Stay tuned.

Do a mix of the two I would run a larger cylinder in the middle giving a cleaner look around the turbos and might give you a little more room than a box
  • Hybrid option - cylindrical tank in the middle. Always love your videos. Favorite channel.
  • @H1WEX
I vote for a single tube based tank in the middle, you can run a drain tube down and through a 90 degree turn in to each end with a pump take at the bottom and vent at the top if you need. You can then put your pump somewhere out of the way at the same level so you have gravity feed. You can run your pump through the ECU to empty the tank on startup.
  • I agree with other comments, combine the two and do a cylindrical tank in the middle. Cylindrical would blend in better with the exhaust.
  • @timazevedo
I think the box in the middle is the best option and looks like it would have the best clearance specs Love this project keep up the great content

The first option like Porsche 935, is my opinion. Good project👍🏻👍🏻

Drain lines to a central stainless cylinder aligned fore and aft, the cylinder shaped scavenge pump next to it aligned fore and aft, this mimics the dual exhaust outlets behind it. Bam! Coolness!

Option 2 seems more effective as means to having two tanks. You could use a cylinder even there But can you fit the scavenging pump in behind. With any of the options however they are all hidden behind the bumper and not seen, so make life easy. And why make the tank out of aluminium? Use a light steel. It will be easier to build and heat soak more of the hot oil much more efficiently.
  • @GaryTheCarNut
Yes, like everyone else said mix the two options with the cylindrical tank in the middle.
  • @geirhaugen3781
Option 3. The turbos do not like any resistance in the flow of oil in the returnline.

Really enjoy your vids and look forward to them to drop. Thanks for taking the time to make them. The Builds are coming along nicely. 👍👍 I’d say the box in the center is most pleasing to the eye but I’m hesitant to vote because I gotta be honest I no next to nothing about turbos as everything I’ve ever had has been natural aspirated so I don’t want to steer you wrong.
  • @GroupWar
option 2. I would recommend Turbowerx scavenge pumps, I use one in my modified 930 and its working great even in hottest middle east summers.
  • Michael Q- are the turbo oil lines under pressure from the oil pump of the engine. If so, IMO, a tank is the wrong way to do the return to the engines sump. Definitely no vent as you will spray hot oil on the exhaust casing fire hazard Positive oil pressure will ensure oil flows to sump as it leaves the turbos body..

I was going to say option #1… but clearly no one else is a fan. Maybe, then, the hybrid. Cylinder in the middle.

Mate, I would go with the single tank and pump. But I think it needs to be stainless steel. It’s vulnerable down there and it would be a bullet proof and simple solution without giving up too much clearance. Blundstones for the win.
