The government will redouble efforts to keep the cost of living stable for Singaporeans, said Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong in his first National Day message. In a video address broadcast on Thursday (Aug 8), PM Wong said the government will continue to cushion the impact of inflation especially on lower- and middle-income Singaporeans through support measures like CDC vouchers, cash payouts and utilities rebates. He noted that many are concerned about housing affordability. "We are determined to keep public housing in Singapore accessible, affordable and fair for all," he said.

Mr Wong also said Singapore will forge new opportunities for its people and that it will strengthen its system of social support.

"In the last two Budgets, we made several moves to uplift lower-wage workers, support vulnerable families and boost retirement adequacy. We have also embarked on nationwide initiatives like Healthier SG and Age Well SG to take better care of our seniors. We intend to do more," he said, adding that he will share more at the National Day Rally on Aug 18.

"Shining red dot" is the most accurate term for Singapore. As an Indonesian, I envy Singapore leadership. Its a small country, yet stable and true to its priority, which is its own people's welfare. I wish Indonesian government take example from this country.

Food and bev costs are unregulated and overpriced even at the heartland food centers..Ministers, pls have a heart and do ur jobs thoroughly and empathetically for the lower class to justify ur astronomical salaries.

PM Wong, Sir! Thank you for your hard work! ā¤ā¤ā¤ Please realign PAPs' values. People over profits & not the other way around. Don't sell Income. No more gerrymandering & fixing the oppo. Food prices and QUALITY are equally important. Never mess with Singaporean's Hawker culture with burdensome high rents & oppressive contracts. Consider switching HDB 99 yr lease to freehold considering the impact of the 4th industrial revolution that will impact our young people's job prospects profoundly to help lessen their burden so that many may inherit some wealth. Remove GRC so that we will get high quality MPs who has to fight for their seat by their own merit. You may pair minority race MPs for certain constituencies to ensure minority representations. This new world requires you to step up with bold policies. Don't just stick to the old playbook from your predecessors as they have lost their effectiveness. Your courage to take drastic measures is required. Let's also move towards a first world parliament & acknowledge the contributions of the opposition party members who had to face insurmountable challenges to bring important concerns across. We look forward to your strong leadership. Happy National day! Thank you & God bless Singapore! šŸ˜ŠšŸ˜ŠšŸ˜Š

The under-performing opposition parties need to open their eyes and ears and pay attention so as to learn from the PAP govt which is ranked the most effective in the world.ā¤ā¤
