Smithsonian Associates Presents Behind the Scenes of The Walking Dead

Published 2016-03-23
On February 5, 2016, Eric Deggans, TV critic for NPR, moderated a behind the scenes looks with the show’s executive producers and members of the cast and crew. Scott M. Gimple, executive producer, showrunner, and writer; Greg Nicotero, executive producer, director, and special effects makeup supervisor; John Sanders, prop master; and Andrew Lincoln, who stars as Rick Grimes, shared insights on how they develop and bring The Walking Dead to life—from conjuring up edge-of-your-seat plotlines and complex characters to frighteningly convincing zombies.

Gimple's full of it! If you kill Rick at the wrong moment, you will kill the show. He cannot be a producer and not know that so why can't he just say that? No he's not UNKILLABLE but you do have to ensure that the series could survive his loss especially since this show was built around his character. It has to 'transition' away from that and be accepted by the audience before you could 'safely' kill the Rick character. You don't have to study film to know that, we have all known shows that 'died' because either the 'leading' or important 'main' character left the show or was killed off too soon.
