Why Spotify's Struggling In Japan

Japan - The country that's notably known for its love for music, and the title of securing its spot in the top 2 of being the world's second largest music market, is having complicated ties with Spotify's streams. But, why is Spotify struggling, in a country most music providing companies could dream of entering?
You see, the main reason why Spotify is failing in Japan, is not only because of the inconvenient expensive mobile plans that are in Japan, but for the main simple fact, that Japan has never really left the vinyl record and cd era.
But, why's that?
Watch till' the end to find out!

Fun fact: Tower Record of Japan is still in business, while the main US company went out business back in 2006.

The biggest thing to me is that the music rental business of the 1980s to the present already filled the niche that Spotify does over forty years later: value for money in your music. Even today, you can pay 980 Yen for Spotify, which has a terrible limited catalogue as far as Japanese listeners go, or you could get 98 CDs and rent them for a day at 10 yen a piece, and just burn them to your computer before returning them to the shop. Even then, that business model has gone out of fashion because people would rather own their music outright. Japanese people today have very few possessions and rent virtually everything due to the high cost of living and stagnant wages. Most Japanese people live their life paying to rent a shoebox flat, a bike, their public transit pass, their phone, even their furniture. This has been a social problem since the 90s, and this and other problems (constant recession and the like) have led to the period since then called "Japan's lost decades". People have little, and so owning something is much more desirable than having someone dictate to you what you can and can't have. Having a nice vinyl that you get with your paycheque at the end of the month is far more rewarding than paying your Spotify subscription again. When you understand that, I think you get to the core of the situation

Reason number 1: listening to music with headphones on the Go is not as a common practice, in some areas are restricted not because is illegal but because is considered a bad manner to do and is an act of rudeness especially in some closer labor areas where citizens needs to pay attention and respect. But they are permitted aslong as you keep the volume low Reason number 2: japanese music mainstream marketing is completely different, japanese artist make music based on the country's seasonal date and the relation they have with their feeling between and the world this has a name itself and is a very historical practice that till this day japanese keeps doing.
