  • It is my experience that the current swing for the fences Meathead mentality that usually exists in the culture of a boxing program within an MMA gym will usually advocate very little strategy when it comes to punching properly and picking your target. I was personally always instructed by my boxing coach back in the day to stay relaxed and work on accuracy of Target and precision and pick the spots you want to hit instead of just simply flinging your arm out toward a general Target area! Relaxation and accuracy first then second I was told to work on speed and 3rd power and follow through. Honestly and seriously I would much rather snap a crisp clean jab to someone's nose three times in succession rather than just simply jabbing at their face in general expecting to hit something. I personally pick my shots allowing me success with my technique as well as injury prevention. No one ever broke their hand on a nose or eye socket or jaw or ribs! But the forehead or side of the skull absolutely broken hand! Soft targets and accuracy are key.

Just wear mma gloves all the time when you leave the house then your hands will be protected
  • If one would be a novice learn boxing to get rhythm, real sparring aka combat experience, learn footwork, hand eye coordination etc... then go pick up muay thai, when you know how to punch and use your feet adding elbows, knees and elbows is like bane in the old batman with the pump 😂

Yep. Even pro boxers can and have broke their hand in a real street fight.. Iron Mike Tyson in the prime of his career broke his hand when he punched Mitch Green outside a club up in Harlem, NYC in the late 80s…. In the ring, Tyson won the fight by UD, but could not finish Green. It’s also not easy to knock everyone out in the ring or street, even for Mike Tyson in his prime. 😁 But that’s another story….or video?
