I got goosebumps. I remember waking up and watching this exact update. Seeing Cantore a little unnerved made me feel afraid.
-
I survived Hurricane Rita in Southeast Texas. I was 3 when Rita hit. The path that lead her away from Houston/Galveston drove the center directly over us...Two terrifying hurricanes of the 2005 season...

We are now in Storm Alert mode here at the weather channel....scary words

0:00 to 0:07 - Oh, how right you were Jimbo. How right you were. I remember watching this exact report from Cantrell that morning before I evacuated from Pass Christian. Thanks for posting. As for j4lambert's post... thank you so much for sharing that amazing and shocking story of survival. But try including more details for general relevance next time.

DJ thanks for posting this. I was in NC and was curious what the MS/LA coastal news was doing to cover it.

@Categorycinque camille and katrina are both legends.
-
I pretty much said that to everybody who had pictures of the jersey shore. Take a good look at them because those sites will not be there by Tuesday morning. Compliments of Sandy.
-
actually there was in the Pacific. You can Wikipedia it if you wish.

He joined the Weather Channel in 1986 right out of the college.

UMM yeah I know..Its ok dude take a breath its not a hurricane competition, I just uploaded videos so people could see what the situation was like down here before Katrina!!
-
@Pataloca: eerily similar to hurricane andrew, which hit not far from ft lauderdale...that was a tropical storm on the morning of august 22nd, by 9pm that night it was nearing category 4 strength
-
Camille was a cat 5 when it hit Mississippi but Katrina was a cat 5 before she weakened to a cat3 made landfall 3 times In Florida Louisiana and Mississippi
-
It's important to be swimming during a category 5 hurricane. This is advice you pass over to others.
-
A massive perfectly circular hurricane with winds of 150 knots and a minimum pressure of 902 millibars in the Gulf of Mexico is probably the worst case scenario as far as a hurricane goes. Thankfully this storm was not on its way up in intensity as it was making landfall, but it was still an epic storm nonetheless. I can only imagine how it would've been had this storm been peaking in intensity at landfall.

@leojmiami No, Super Typhoons near Asia have been recorded 20 times going below 880mbs.
-
Not the second strongest Hurricane on earth, the strongest hurricane was in the West Pacific, Super Typhoon Tip got down to 870mb
-
@leojmiami wilma had a pressure of 882mb and was no where even close to the second strongest tropical cyclone on record, its maybe the 11th or 12th, but yes it did become the strongest hurricane in the atlantic, but Katrina made landfall as a category 4 with 140MPH winds. Its intensity doesn't mean a thing, it all depends on where the system makes landfall, which will cause the damage.
-
Theres a Super Typhoon Tip, its the strongest ever Cyclone in the world with a Pressure of 870mb
-
@leojmiami Wilma may have been the strongest hurricane in history but it didn't last very long at all. Gilbert made landfall as a category 5 and Katrina has a 4 or 5 and did so much damage. Wilma made landfall has a category 3 but still was a strong hurricane though but not as deadly as Gilbert and Katrina.
-
@leojmiami I think you meant it was the strongest in the Atlantic Ocean
