I would love to know why Dumbledore and generally all the professors went from dressing in fancy old-fashioned clothes to wearing wizard robes
  • Fantastic Beasts 1 was a fun spinoff at the very least and should've been left at that. Making a franchise that completely ignores the message of the first as it goes along was an absolutely pathetic idea.
  • @Awesome_Pichu
Gotta love how Newt almost has nothing to do with the sequels yet they keep having to shove him into situations that involve him fighting evil wizards when that has nothing to do with his job
  • Honestly I'd watch a movie with Newt just doing Newt things for 2 hours.
  • Grindelwald and Dumbledore's love was very deep, very intense, very easy-to-edit-out-for-China.
  • @Kastafore
Remember when the first film was a charming, contained story about a quirky dude that went 'round documenting various magical beasts in the Wizarding world? Yeah- kinda turned into forgettable action-schlock.
  • I don't understand why she didn't just go for a more How to Train your Dragon type story. There's all these super dangerous monsters and everyone wants to kill them but when Newt was a child he came across one and it didn't attack him so he became curious. He tries to befriend them and finds out that everyone is unknowingly provoking them but if they change then they could live a mutually beneficial companionship. It'd be so much more heartwarming and fantastical than the gray drama we got.
  • Why didn't JK just make Fantastic Beasts its own thing then do a separate story about Grindlewald and Dumbledore? Wouldve been better
  • I will never understand why they couldn’t just have left Fantastic Beasts series be about Newt running around saving various magical creatures and having fun adventures along the way and meeting people from all over the world — this could have been a magical Indiana Jones/Steve Irwin story and it could have been whimsical and fun. All the Grindelwald and Dumbledore drama literally could have been just another film series on its own. Combining the two plots is so entirely ridiculous given how polar opposite of tone they actually are.

I think JK really overestimated how much we wanted to see the Grindelwald/Dumbledore story. They hung out for a summer, had a big fight, avoided each other for years then fought once and Dumbledore won. And Grindelwald basically just surrendered depending on who you believe. That's not enough for a story

I just realized something: If the Qilin is crucial to Wizard elections, why is there a general apathy towards magical creatures as stated in the first movie? If you had a creature that could decide elections, I feel like some people would go "Hmm, I wonder if other creatures are as useful as this one."
  • Wait, so Queenie joined a group that hated Muggles, willingly, and yet Jacob still married her? How is she even the same person anymore? Like, I could see them still having a relationship if she was being Imperio'd, but she wasn't, it came across like very much a choice that she made. How can they possibly have a decent relationship anymore when she put a love enchantment on him, abandoned their relationship to join Grindewald, and then just... came back? Yes she cried over you when you were being cursed but come on Jacob you're worth more than that
  • Also, at what point did Dumbledore decide to change clothing style from 1940's gangster to medieval wizard robes?
  • @EagleBoxx
I don't understand why they created the magical deer and described it as the "purest creature of the world"... while they had the unicorn from the 1st HP movie... It would have been so cool to bring the first magical beast of the entire saga and create a plot around it. And then after all the shennanigans, Dumbledore takes it to Hogwarts and put it in the Forbidden Forrest... BOOM continuity.
  • @That1Yoshii
I swear the second and third movies are just straight up fanfics.
  • FUN FACT- When Nifflers were introduced into the hp series, Ron said he'd want one. Hagrid told him it wouldn't be a great idea bc a Niffler will rip your house apart looking for shiny... I'm pretty sure this happens in Goblet of Fire
  • @GuildCarver
The coolest thing about The Crimes of Grindelwald was in the theatre next to our screening they was showing Bohemian Rhapsody. So occasionally you'd just hear Queen songs blasting through the wall. They kill the dragon thing at the end as "WeEeEeEeEeEeE ARE THE CHAMPIONS" was blasting out. Rest of the movie was so bad I skipped the third one.

i love hp but i could never get into fantastic beasts even though i came out of the first movie loving newt’s character… he feels so incredibly out of place in the main conflict. i’d pay money to watch a movie of just him exploring the world rehabilitating cool, exotic wizarding creatures, not to watch grindelwald and dumbledore beef it out. both characters were 10x more compelling when we didn’t know what had happened to begin with.

Here's how you make a Fantastic Beasts series work: Movie 1: Child and young Newt discovering his fascination with magical beasts, perhaps gets flak about it from his peers. Some stuff from his time at Hogwarts. Maybe he saves someone from a beast by using his knowledge. A more character-focused piece to really help us understand why Newt cares so deeply about this. Movie 2: Young adult Newt, fresh-faced, emerges into a wizarding world that seems cold and uncaring towards the beasts Newt holds in such high regard. Now starts his real quest, to educate people about, and preserve, these wonderful creatures. This would be a lighthearted affair for the most part, lots of antics of Newt interacting with various creatures. Movie 3: Adult Newt faces off against groups of poachers, both muggles and wizards. He realizes he has a duty to teach the world about these creatures and settles on writing his new encyclopedia. A slower movie with some pre-environmental messages in there. And you know what none of those stories require at all? Any of the established HP characters. No Dumbledore, no Grindlewald, nothing. Keep the overarching wizarding world and its politics to background noise.

Whats so frustrating is they made a point to say jacob is useful because he’s a good guy then they have the deer baby pick the leader, could’ve had that pick the muggle as he’s pure of heart and then all the wizards would see muggles are like them and worthy which defeats grindlewald’s whole campaign.
