Bach - Cantata Wir müssen durch viel Trübsal... BWV 146 - Van Veldhoven | Netherlands Bach Society

Published 2024-05-09
Cantata 'Wir müssen durch viel Trübsal in das Reich Gottes eingehen', performed by the Netherlands Bach Society for All of Bach, begins fairly cheerfully, with a mini organ concerto as a sinfonia. But immediately afterwards, the misery on earth becomes audible as the singers have difficult lines filled with obstacles. ‘Though you are sad, your sorrow will turn to joy’. These words from the sermon that was read in Leipzig on the third Sunday after Easter sum up the message of this cantata. The sorrow of earthly life is juxtaposed with the joy offered by faith and the promise of heaven.

Bachs Kunst gibt uns die Gewissheit, dass das Leben auf dieser Welt ohne Musik, Poesie und Literatur unerträglich wäre.

It’s a shame YouTube search algorithm doesn’t pick up this magnificent interpretation! Huge props to NBS for uploading this piece 🥰

Wow, it seems to me that the symphony in this cantata makes much better use of the notes than the harpsichord concerto... and the rest of the cantata is wonderful too. The work of Sato, Van Doeselaar, Keohanne and the other soloists is incredible, well, everyone, what a great team you all make!!

From the brash first movement to the utter desolation in the second movement. Who but Bach could have done this so masterfully? Thank you, you’ve made my day.

Leo van D at the organ… fantastic! A wonderful performance by everyone.

A masterful performance of this incredible Cantata. We are all so lucky to have the Netherlands Bach Society providing these incredible performances to the public. A fantastic job and performance by everyone involved - this is undoubtedly the best version of the Cantata I've heard.
  • The music of Johann Sebastian Bach is sublime, his notes make the veil of earthly monotony unravel and lift you to heaven. It is heaven musically speaking. I wish that in these dark times so full of musical garbage and so full of trap and reggaeton, our steps would cross paths with Johann Sebastian Bach. Greetings from Mexico.
  • The subtle blending of organ and orchestra in the Sinfonia is sublime. Then singers add to the rich soundscape!

Bach's music is transcendental. I've grown up in a non-musical family, never cared about classical music, been a metalhead last 30 years, yet Bach is captivating: I hear new NBS record, I literally cannot let go, must hear to the end, even if it is as long as this (or even as long as Johannes Passion), there is something beyond this world in this music. And what beautiful voices you've got here...

When I first heard this Sinfonia back in the 1950s I nearly fell out of my chair. I had much the same reaction to this energetic and masterly performance.

The Netherlands Bach Society will never disappoint me! Everytime I hear you guys, it is like if God itself was talking to me, but I really don't have words or at least enough of them to describe these feelings. And also, I learn something new: now I know where did BWV 1052 (R) end, it is really amazing how amazing and fun is my road to Bach thanks to you guys! And this, is something Nobody will be able to take away from me! That my Lord Bless Twice Every Single Member that Is and Has Been at the Netherlands Bach Society!

Jazz singer Nina Simone once stated that in Bach´s music she feels the closest to God. -Indeed.

Leo van Doeselaar is such a wonderfully characterful and rhythmic player. I love his performances of which there are many to enjoy on NBS.
