The Citiwalk is a system of underground tunnels and elevated skybridges in downtown Toledo, Ohio. The system is not very well-known, and rather underused. I explored the underground portion of the Citiwalk recently, and found some interesting things. I also snuck up to what was the skybridge over Summit Street.

Very interesting video but the problem is you look at the ground more than anything else. Which is outrageously annoying.

How did I not know there was a whole underground mall under toledos downtown...

Wow you took me down memory lane, I used to love portside.

Suggestions for more watchable video: 1) Pan the camera slowly! Move the camera steadily and slowly, about two or three times as slow as you are doing. Moving the camera rapidly makes your viewers feel disoriented. 2) As you move, frame the view that you’d like your viewers to see. Don’t focus on the ground as you walk. Again, if in doubt, follow rule one.

Thanks, for as much as I know about Toledo never knew this existed.
  • This whole thing use to be connected to Portside mall, which is where COSI and then the new science museum moved in. The mall was a colossal failure, and only operated vividly for a few years. I think the idea was to have these underground walkways to allow people from the Seagate center and surrounding areas to get to the mall without being subject to the outside. Since this is downtown, parking right at the mall was not really an option. They use to have a walkway that went over Summit street, I remember it very well. It connected a parking garage and the mall, it has since been torn down. My grandfather, who lived in Toledo told me that around the area where the food court was, there was live music, caterers, and even sometimes a firework display on the river. The area has just changed a lot since it was all planned out, I really wonder what they are going to do with it because it has a lot of potential.

I remember back in the eighties there used to be huge aquariums down there

Is this still accessable? I live about 5-10 minutes from here and went to Imagination station last summer but they've got a different entrance now which sucks. I'm hoping I can somehow sneak in or ask to explore one day. 🤷‍♀️

This would have survived if people didn't get greedy. Ownership wanted too much for rents. Prices were too high and there wasn't much promotion.

I remember this! I forgot it existed, but I remember the murals and it being an easy way to get across the street.

I remember walking down the halls almost every month and there only being a couple of stores opened and a couple of people. Does anyone remember the triple a cafe?

Akron has something similar, except mostly above-ground & might not be as extensive. I might get a video of that when I go to Akron this Summer.

I do remember the ice skating concession. It existed for one or maybe two winters.

I would be scared being down there alone… this interesting didn’t know they had this
  • I used to work at 1 Seagate at Owens Illinois. I used to enjoy eating at the restaurant down there and typically having a snack from the bakery as well. Once OI moved their HQ to Perrysburgh, that was it for this place. Good memories. Also, please don't point your camera at the ground so much.
