It’s crazy how this guy can have the foresight of years and years in the future yet most people now a-days can’t see the reality right in front of them

The further a society drifts from the truth, the more it will hate those that speak it.
    George Orwell
  • This might not be an Orwell quote but it shares a similar warning. “The only thing necessary for the triumph of Evil is for Good men to do nothing”. - Edmund Burke.

Frighteningly accurate. This man was sent to warn us and we ignored the warnings, and now we pay. Everything he predicted has come to fruition. We are in big trouble and it’s all of our own doing.

Wow, if that doesn't hit home for anyone watching this then you're already too far gone.

Currently reading 1984. I’m astonished by how spot on this book is and I’m only in the beginning chapters.
  • I read that book 4 times and reading it now. But as long as people go with this it will only get worse people must speak out. We are there now.God help us all

I think it's pretty much agreed at this point that we are in a Brave New World type of dystopia. Distracted with pleasures and entertainment, not even noticing the boot.

I read George Orwell's '1984', and and I thought then that the symbolic picture of Big Brother watching everyone, and all that was happening was not with reference to our country.

But, truly, we are going through in our own country what George Orwell wrote in '1984'.

We need to pay attention to the warning and core message, 'Let it not happen'. 'It is up to us'. Indeed, it is an onerous and personal responsibility, imperative on each one of us, to carefully guard our right freedom in all its facets.
  • What an appropriate video for the times we all find ourselves in. I'm 57 and the first time I read 1984 was in 1982 in a highschool English class and I remember saying in a class discussion that that scenario could never happen in the United States. I had the chance to reread it ten years ago and it was startling how many things in the book parallel what is going on in the country and the world in general. I believe 1984 was written after WW2 so it makes it very prophetic indeed.

The most frightening aspect of recent events is the way that a startling amount of people actually welcome their oppression and work actively to facilitate it. We have seen people widely accept perversion and de-humanisation out of fear, which I would have thought would have crossed a line if asked a few years ago. The question has to be asked: where is the line?

It is unbelievable to see how easily modern humans are controlled by the existential void inside.

and 74 years later, we're sliding right into it... without a struggle... sad...
  • My dad, when he was still living, had me read this book 45 years ago;

I did not think much of it at the time he had me read it; but now, it makes sense.

I read 1984 in the year 1984 as a junior in high school. I remember thinking this sort of thing would never happen in America. We love our freedom plus we have constitutional protections.
Boy did I have a lot to learn.
  • I'm reading 1984 right now, george Orwell was spot on when he said, in a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act , it's happening all around us in these days.
  • @John-xr9yf
As Ben Franklin said, "A Constitutional Republic is a good thing, if you can keep it!" Any government deteriorates with out checks and balances.
