  • Take your personal data back with Incogni! Use code FELIX at the link below and get 60% off an annual plan: incogni.com/felix What do you think? Will SpaceX actually attempt to catch the Booster this year, or is this another example of Elon's famously optimistic timelines? :_WAIHello:
  • @adak2050
Catching the booster with a pair of chopsticks from mid air may just go down as one of the craziest feats of engineering ever attempted by human beings right up there with the Wright brothers first flight and landing on the moon. I also don't think most people realize how significant the Polaris Dawn missions are. It's regular humans, not professional astronauts learning to live and work in space. Plus you know Space X will rapidly iterate that space suit, make it better and better. 2024 should be a hell of a year in space...
  • Watching the first catch of the booster will be like watching the first landing of the falcon rocket. It’s really cool to watch all the new activity and ambitions plans for space exploration. For too long we rested upon our laurels.
  • @costrio
I think that Starhopper is not just a prototype but the iconic door that opened up a new world of recoverable boosters and Starships. Like the Wright's Bros.' plane, the Lindberg plane, or a Space Shuttle in the Smithsonian, it could be considered to become a national treasure, some day perhaps?
  • @the_lomax
The Polaris Dawn mission is probably one of the most ambitious manned missions since the Apollo Program and its not being done by a government. Its actually quite amazing and ground breaking.
  • @olisil
As a virtual landing of the booster in an exact position at sea is valuable, a simultaneous virtual catch by the chopsticks at the same time would be a great test!
  • 6:41 "It's important to remember Starship's design priorities are functionality... not aesthetics." This is simply not true at all. Look at Elon's entire history. He has commented many many times on the importance of aesthetics. Electric cars had to look cool, be sexy, not dorky golf carts. He wanted Dragon to look awesome and futuristic. He wanted the SpaceX spacesuits to look sleek, not merely "functional". He has commented multiple times about how cool it is that finally "the future looks like the future". He even lamented that he may have made the Starship nosecone a bit too pointy - but that he insisted on that geometry because he likes the AESTHETICS. Aesthetics are ALWAYS part of the calculation for Elon - just look at ANY of his companies or projects.
  • It's a small point but the new space suits have a umbilical not a tether
  • @kstricl
Called it on the rcs vents. Jebediah might just live through this flight.
  • @rydplrs71
I bet the mystery vent is for the cargo bay. In the first test you could see the mechanism fighting differential pressure.
  • I think that the second tower is for catching the booster, so that the launch pad is not damaged in case of a failed catching attempt. Since basically all the parts for the tower are available, it is still possible this year. Greetings from Germany!
  • @BMrider75
I'm glad you described the CFA piling technique accurately this time. (I hoped CJ passed on the correction) Fingers crossed 🤞 for OFT 4.
  • @MrOneWolfe
Ship 26 will be the first to be tested on the new test stand.
  • @Spac24668
Im can't wait for that water tower to fly
  • Get ready for flight 4! I hope they managed to do an inflight burn and also a successful reentry. If the booster lands at see (virtual tower), IFT5 will be awesome
  • The entire suit needed radiation protection. There should be a thin layer of gold in the Multi Layer Insulation (MLI). This is not needed when a space suit is not used for time outside.
  • The SpaceX EVA suit looks a lot like Ed White's Gemini suit (not in appearance, but in agility features). Unless Jared tries to perform actual repair work tests, his space walk will be about as valuable as Alexi Leonov and Ed White's short stunt space walks. Later Gemini missions showed how difficult working in space was. It was not until Gemini 12 that NASA showed proficiency in working outside the capsule. It wasn't until the Space Shuttle program, with the massive orbiter (for stability) and the Robotic Arm for easy mobility and astronaut restraints, that NASA actually showed MASTERY of EVA operations. Let us hope interplanetary Starship will be equipped with an airlock and a robotic arm for repairs that might be required.
  • Already 422K subscribers, congratulations Felix and team, can't wait to see you hit a much deserved 500K, you rock! 😃
