  • THE GAME - blew my mind when I originally saw it. What a movie.

I love What dreams may come but I just can't watch any Robin Williams movie yet. He was a movie star that I genuinely cried over when I heard of his passing. He made me laugh and I thought he was a brilliant actor. I was a huge fan of him. Not just as an actor or comedian. He seemed like a very decent human being. Rest In Peace Robin. You are missed.

As a huge western fan I recently saw “The Outlaw Josey Wales”. Not sure how I missed this, but one of my favorites now for sure.

"the 70's...I wasn't alive then" 72-82 was my heyday! Way to make me feel ancient bro! Excellent recommendations as always. I kept skipping by "A Ghost Story" , so I'll now check that one out. I've seen all the rest (some multiple times) so you get a thumbs up from me.
  • Great recommendations list, Darren. Particularly Night in Paradise, War Dogs, Killing Them Softly, Boogie Nights and The Outlaw Josey Wales. Fabulous. See you on your next Flick Connection ⭐️⭐️⭐️

"What dreams may come" is an excellent excellent movie.

I love The Game, not only one of my favorite Fincher movies, but just one of my favorite movies period!

I just watched Boogie Nights again, before I saw this list. It is one of my favorites as well, and captures perfectly how the innocence of the early 70s, coming at the tail of the Summer of Love, was corrupted by the drugs and greed of the 80s. Those of us who came of age during this time will relate to what the characters go through during the story, and how the era transformed us as a result. The performances in this film are, without exception, near the best that every one of the artists has ever done. That is saying something with the ensemble cast that includes so many superstars in their own right.

I just watched What Dreams May Come for the first time ever. It is a brilliant movie and, my God, Annabella Sciorra absolutely stole the movie, her performance hit me in the chest. She should have been in 100 more movies.
  • Boogie Nights is definitely a classic. One of the best of the 90s, for sure.

I'd like to recommend "A Stupid and Futile Gesture" It's about the guy that started National Lampoon. He also wrote Animal House and Caddy Shack, Doug Kenny. It's hilarious! And sad, but mostly hilarious.

Boogie Nights gets a knock by some due to it’s subject matter - But it’s a cinematic masterpiece - Right up there with There Will Be Blood & Magnolia - My personal favorite film from PTA

Fun Fact: What Dreams May Come was the last VHS tape I ever bought. I haven't had a VCR in a looong time, so thanks for the re-watch suggestion!
  • @MetalTrenches
I was watching A Ghost Story and my 4-5 year old walked in… she watched the whole thing in near silence. Definitely something to be said about its visuals and atmosphere. Also The Game is MAD underrated
  • I want to rewatch What Dreams May Come as an adult with depression just for a different perspective from the first time I watched it.
  • So glad What Dreams May Come is back! My wife has never seen it. This should be a treat.

MIGHT??!? Be Wahlberg's best role?!?! Lolol I get the impression when I watch this movie, that the reason he is just so phenomenal in this role is that this is very similar to what he's like in real life lol. He and Edward Norton got screwed and back-to-back years of the oscars. Not only should they both have been nominated, but I believe they should have won for boogie nights and American History x. I think it is clearly Mark wahlberg's best work by a mile.

In that trailer for The Game, the home movie footage showing a kid and his dad is also used in the HBO series Succession.
