At the #BudgetRoundTable2024 conference, Rahul Kanwal, Executive Director, Business Today; Sourav Majumdar, Editor, Business Today and Siddharth Zarabi, Managing Editor, BTTV engaged in an insightful conversation with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The discussion focused on the recent tax hikes on various asset classes, including stocks, futures and options (F&Os), and the indexation of real estate. FM Sitharaman explained that the tax increases are minimal and aimed at rationalizing the tax system across different asset classes. She emphasized that measures such as indexation in the real estate sector were taken to ensure fair treatment across asset classes. FM Sitharaman assured that tax simplification remains a priority despite new changes, highlighting the GST's role in streamlining the tax structure nationwide. She clarified the hikes from 10% to 12.5% on stocks are not intended to boost government revenue but to achieve a more balanced tax framework. The government's aim is to maintain stability while simplifying taxes for broader economic equity.

She is incompetent to be a finance minister. She is rude. Doesn't answer with facts. She is just a rubber stamp of Modi.

I am paying 30% direct taxes and also indirect taxes. I am earning for 3 members of my family and i can't afford even a small maruti car. Why my money is paid for your incompetency and your bridges are falling frequently, your trains are derailing, colliding frequently. FM will playing for opposition and will lead to BJP fall.

It’s a waste of time hearing her version.. simply fooling people ..

When FM is talking about equality, why have you not raised the corporate taxes? why only penalize the middle class. The answers given by FM are nowhere linked to the question asked.

Voter of BJP SINCE 2014 TILL 23/07/2024.BYE BYE TATA KHATAM 🎆🎆🎆🎆🎇🔥
  • No justification for blatantly anti middle class budget, you will be responsible for driving away the middle class from the BJP
  • @santoshed
Why don't you tax rich farmers? Why don't you widen your tax net so that all the income tax burden on 2% population is reduced?
  • She is too arrogant and blind. BJP will pay high price for this
  • Thank you Nirmala Ji, finally I have a genuine reason to leave INDIA forever.

rubbish !! how can indexation be complex!! Come on !! A high schooler can calculate and show that tax is higher without indexing the inflation. !! Such an eyewash response. How can the whole India see that the calculation is wrong and is burdening the middle class but not finance minister!!
  • doesn't matter in whatever way she tries to justify.... this is unreasonable. Middle class has always been in bjp's support but they dont seem to support middle class. There will be consequences. Govt role is good governance and not manipulate people's decisions.

Very disappointing to see FM doesn't seem to understand the pain of honest tax paying citizens and want to keep taxing more and more. I think this is going to be the end for BJP
  • @opedsk
She has no money to contest Loksabha elections 😂 but no such issues in Rajya sabha or cabinet 😅
  • @venkat9678
Simplicity does not mean bringing draconian tax and removing indexation benefits LTCG of our parents hard earned single flat or old house that was passed on to us. BJP has got many votes only from middle class people during 2024 election to retain their power at center. You have given a rude shock to the people who elected you for third time.

Who asked for equal treatment of all assetclasses? How can any two asset classes be similar?
