When ThunderCats first appeared on TV screens in the 1980s, the series debuted on many TV stations courtesy of a special hour-long pilot episode. The footage from this pilot episode would go to make up the first two episodes of the TV series, "Exodus" and "The Unholy Alliance", once the series went into syndication. This pilot episode was later released on home video, and this home video is often referred to as the "movie version" of "Exodus".

Each regular episode of ThunderCats needed to be just over 20 minutes in length, and so as a consequence, when the ThunderCats pilot was cut down into two stand-alone episodes, several minutes of footage needed to be cut from "Exodus" in order to make the episode fit the time frame. These "deleted scenes" were not released by Warner Bros. on their DVD releases of ThunderCats, but the website www.thundercatslair.org is proud to now present each of these cut scenes in all their glory!

The longest sequence showcased here, much of this scene actually did make it to the final episode, but quite a bit of it also ended up being cut out. Absent from the stand-alone version of the episode are Wilykit's surprise that Panthro couldn't find a better planet in the whole universe, as well as Panthro's response, Snarf's declaration that he cannot be convinced that Suspension Capsules work, the sequence involving Wilykat trapping his sister inside her Suspension Capsule, Jaga's enquiry of Panthro as to whether there's another choice and Panthro's answer, Jaga's line "so let's not have any more talk", Wilykit's emotional line telling Jaga that he is always right (which ties in to Wilykat's deleted line in the opening scene), and Jaga's salute to the ThunderCats in their Capsules. Whilst these may seem like minor edits, when viewed in context with the rest of the scene they add a great deal of emotional weight to Jaga's impending death.

Yessss, I knew I remembered seeing this scene where Wilykat pushed his sister into one of the suspension pods as a joke! I thought I had imagined it as a kid because when I bought the dvds the first episode didn't contain some of these scenes. So thank you for posting these deleted scenes.

“When in doubt chicken out” yup 👍🏻

Even as a kid I thought Kat's flirty tone with his twin sister was weird...

As a kid I never realized they were wary of the suspension capsules. Snarf and wily kit were scared. Rightfully so seeing how it did lion-o. Could’ve killed them all if it completely malfunctioned.
  • As much as I love jaga's character I would still like to have seen more of Claudus, lion o's father. Jaga was second compared to him.

This wasn't a deleted scene as far as I know. I vividly remember this scene.

The leader dies of old age in deep space. Pretty deep plot for a kids show
  • I just ran a session of my homebrew DnD campaign, and there was an emotional moment where the king of a region was thanking the players for saving so many people. I was inspired by Jaga, emulating his voice as best I could, and played Jaga's Theme, the soundtrack we hear in the background of this scene. Everyone was in tears at the end, even I had to wipe a few away.

Wooooow! I haven't seen this since I was a kid. I def not choked up right now.

I always remember Jaga being like a cross between Jesus and Obi wan Kenobi.
  • So..Lion-O ages and Wily Kit and Kat don’t. Jaga says he can’t survive the journey in suspension, but makes it nearly it all the way outside it.

Jaga is a true leader. I hope our Malaysian politicians can learn from him. Those politicians always have negative opinions on western cartoons. Kids in the 90s watching this cartoons grown to be great leaders.
