"Alas! I had picked up The King In Yellow" Audience sighs
  • I love Peter Yeardsly. Most narrators on Libravox aren't very good readers, but it's free and I appreciate the effort. But Peter and Chicito Cristo are very good. Thank you for sharing this collection.
  • To my horror, this reminded me of a dream I had years before, one which I will never forget. I "woke up" in a dream, water almost up to my knees. I was surrounded by a darkness that hung almost like a fog. Ahead of me was a small hill which was raised above the water, so I walked to it to be out of the water. As I stood on the hill, a girl which seemingly came out of nowhere approached me and she had no face. "Look" she told me, as she pointed off to the distance. I looked and to my surprise I saw an enormous black mountain in the perfect shape of a triangle with two orbitual spheres of an unknown color floating above the peak. I was astonished and told the girl that it was beautiful. It was at this moment that the black mountain started to move toward me at a speed that should not have been possible. Horrified I clung to the girl with no face, and she said nothing. The mountain at that point was then towering over me, its orbs seemingly looking at me and through me. Then I woke up, drenched in sweat and literally crying. It is something I don't think I will ever be able to explain with just words as it does not do it justice. I do not know what I saw but then, at the point of time, I truly knew fear.
  • This reader is the king in yellow. His melodiously, mellifluous smoothie smoothness is a soft, sweet smoocher.

as someone listening to this who is coping with the fact there isn’t more malevolent to listen to, so many references are making sense

1:29:30 CAMILLA: You, sir, should unmask. STRANGER: Indeed? CASSILDA: Indeed it's time. We all have laid aside disguise but you. STRANGER: I wear no mask. CAMILLA: (Terrified, aside to Cassilda.) No mask? No mask! The King in Yellow, Act I, Scene 2.

I actually had an idea to adapt the story "The Repairer of Reputations" to a video game. For simplicity's sake, it's essentially a pair of prodigal fraternal twins: one finds joy in advancing technological capabilities (sort of like a megalomaniac), while the other finds joy in sharing knowledge in the world. Both are engineers, but one's a researcher and the other's a teacher. I actually have a scrapped storyboard if anyone wants to see it, mainly because I'm still trying to come up with a solid plotline for my game.
  • I was reading a book about ancient old vampires who had to leave their home of centuries and only took their treasures. One grabbed the book The King in Yellow!! It made me smile

I think the writer of these stories must have been slightly psychotic or had an experience with mental illness. Fascinating collection of very strange stories which really are a window into psychosis.

2:45:00 my favourite. I wish Yeardsley would narrate E.F. Benson sometime.
