I am using cheap Tp-link Archer C20 WIFI AC900 dual band with 3 x 5dBi WiFi antennas for this mod
First, let me unbox those routers
Very nice packaging
TP-LINK’s Archer C20 comes with the next generation Wi-Fi standard – 802.11ac, backward compatible with 802.11n
It has two 2.4 GHz antennas and one 5G in the middle
External Power Supply‎: ‎12VDC /1A
Quick installation guide
To convert indoor router to outdoor, we need convert kit including high gain WiFi antenna
PoE cables help you power your router over RJ-45 cable
This 16 dBi antenna can send/receive wifi signal from miles away
Now we need to open the indoor wifi router case with screwdriver and a plastic card
This router is well made, we can see three antennas and only one 5G in the middle
We will now de-solder those 2.4 GHz antennas
I will also tell you how to open those omni antennas, anyway I need the 5GHz antenna for the mod because my kits has 2.4GHz only
If you follow my trick, you can remove wifi antennas easily
I will now open the antennas and get the internal parts for the mod
This is 2.4GHz antenna, in this version, the effective part is just half of the antenna's lenght
And this is 5GHz antenna part
Now we will fix the board in to the box to convert it to external wifi router with long range antenna
Fix the board to antenna
Now we will fix antenna to the cover box
We fix all the other items including PoE cable
After solder 2.4GHz antennas, we also fix 5GHz antenna to the box using hot glue
Then we can test the systems by connecting PoE injector to the box
All good, the mod is finish, now we have an AC long range outdoor WiFi
Finally, we can close the case and finish our WiFi mod.

How come two antennas have only one wire comming from them while the third antenna has a cable with outer shield as well as central core push on connection. How come the 2ghz antennas have each only a single soldered wire.
  • what happened with the surge mini controller. did you attached it to the antennae?
  • @craigr306
Looks well just one thing u didnt put a seal around the back plate
  • @PopaAlexandru.
Ordinary electronic components are from 0 degrees to 70 degrees Celsius. The donor (Archer C20) is a device for indoor use equipped with common components. Sometimes outdoor temperatures are below 0 degrees Celsius. At other times, the internal temperature exceeds 70 degrees Celsius (in the sun + heat generated by the electronic part). The antennas must be uncovered or the electronics themselves partially cover them.

I've a query about my Router. I'm having a TP Link Archer C20i Router. I was using it by connecting it to 12v battery directly (because input rating of this router is 12v 1Amp). It worked fine until one day the battery discharged and due to under voltage my router stopped working. I don't know what happened to it, any components got damaged or firmware corrupted but only Power LED is glowing and nothing else. I tried flashing new firmware using TFTP Mode but no success. Serial communication is showing random unknown characters in serial window and yes I double triple checked the baud rates. Then I removed Winbond BIOS 8 pin IC and checked it and I'm able to Read and Write to the IC. Now I don't know what else to do? Any suggestion would be appreciable. Thanks
  • Put some sealant between the back metal plate and the case. but overall a great job.

  • @eng.wandeson
Can I use it as a wireless network card using the code injection and monitoring functions?
  • I didn't catch what you did with antenna wires point at circuit you early detached. Did you connect that points with your new antenna? ?
  • @randerson752
3D printed parts would make this 10X better, you could make it look factory w them. Instead of zip ties. And still have visible use of the LED’s . Either way awesome build. Wish we could see the effects in use.
  • Sir, we have TP Link WA5210g Router's BIOS IC. So How can replaced by TP link WA7210N.
  • @armandocarmo134
hi,. were can I get the antenna? the link are for one conection not fot two like on video.regards
  • @midel48
can i ask if it can be used as 5ghz wifi antenna?
  • @ugsisr
Your Modification is said to increase the power from 5 dBi to 16 dBi.. How did you measure the true output? .....or did you calculate this increase by change in Antenna gain alone ?
