I really love Spindizzy Worlds. So much pleasure to finish all the worlds. Spindizzy was already a fabulous maze game but this one add so numerous mechanics. The match is clearly between Amiga, X68000 and SNES. Amiga version has the littlest screen size with a real playing area in 288x168. 50 fps scrolling, no ingame music. SNES offers a 256x224 display area thanks to its integrated HUD, ingame musics and 50fps scrolling. X68000 uses a 248x256 resolution with musics and 50fps scrolling. But things aren't so easy. There is no ingame music on Amiga but for me the ingame musics of the other versions are just weird here. If music while playing could be an interesting idea, it needed small discreet melodies. The game requires mastery and in my opinion a lot of concentration, so it's not that they are bad but honestly these musics are completely irrelevant. The need of a password in the SNES version rather than a save on Amiga and X68000 is a flaw for the Nintendo system version. Amiga version resolution lost a lot in height but in the other hand offers the widest one. SNES version permits to visit the level while pausing the game but Amiga/X68000 versions offer a nice fullscreen map instead. Well, here is my top : 1. X68000 (larger display area, number one only if musics can be turned off, save game) 2. Amiga (no music, perfect for concentration, save game and a small advantage because 50fps games are not that common on the Amiga, a nice effort) 3. SNES (nice display area but littlest compared to X68000, password less practical than a save, no fullscreen map and it's impossible to turn off the music) Some trivias. The game have been developed on Amiga, published by Electric Dreams on Amiga but also on ST. To commercialize the game, Electric Dreams launched an artwork competition in the English magazine Amiga Format. It's the winning artwork from Steve Hopcroft that is used on the Amiga/ST box of the game. More mysterious thing is the fact that G.E.R.A.L.D (the spinning top ship) is shown as an Indiana Jones style character on the Atari ST title screen only. I couldn't find an explanation anywhere . At last, if you play it with a regular joypad on SNES or Sharp X68000, maybe you will find G.E.R.A.L.D difficult to control on some steep places in the scenery or when you have to turn quickly. Don't forget the game has been initially designed for Amiga and ST, systems which we used to play with a joystick. With a joystick in hand, turning around or downshifting at the last moment was much easier than with a directional pad. On Amiga/ST, the game perfectly works in 60hz, making the game, faster, smoother, and with a display that fills your screen. The original Amiga/ST versions dont't have an Beginner/Advanced mode choice at start. Instead, the main menu features a "slow mode" that influences G.E.R.A.L.D's default speed.
  • I played the SNES version when I was a lad. Criminally underlooked puzzle game and damn shame the creator got screwed over by Activision. Would have loved this to become a series.

ST - Save me from the flip screen "Scrolling" it makes me dizzy ;-) PC-9801 - More flip screen "Scrolling" and what's with the interlace look?? The rest really weren't that different. It was a fun game like the first.
