As a Brit, I kinda assumed that we were masters of the fryer. It wasn't until I had a couple of trips to Oz that I realised that the humble 'fish and chip' shop in Australia is worth 10 back in the UK. I was blown away with the range and quality.

Looks like Australia makes some great fish and chips. Cheers, from your northern cousin, Canada.

We used to have a place like this here in California that was really good. It had everything you listed and more and was really great quality. The best part is that the owner didn't care a whole lot about money since he retired at a young age and sold the food at a very good price. It was really a shame when he decided to finally close up shop so that he could enjoy his senior years. We need another place like it again.

Currently travelling and havenโ€™t been home in 3 1/2 months, this brought me back home. Thanks for that Greg.

"goes thru you like a freight train". My favorite line in the commentary. Go Greg!

Wow a bit different to what I've had here in New Zealand. I LOVE your enthusiasm!

Greg, In Kiwiland we call a battered Savaloy a Hotdog. To remove confusion we call the Frankfurter in a roll, an American Hotdog. The potato scallop is called a potato fritter. We also get curry rolls and battered meat patties that taste great too. Calamari rings are called Squid rings here. We don't tend to get those yummy looking dim sims or the prawn ones. I tried your Oz fish and chips (or should I say fush and chups) when I was in Melbourne last year. It was very noice. Of course it has to have a generous dollop of Watties Tomato sauce. You will have to come over to NZ one day and try our takeaways (or as we sometimes call it Taak e are ways to give it a local feel).

Greggo, Thanks for the memories, mate! Everytime I visit Goldie from Melbourne, I usually go to all the places you stop at and have same snacks, love going to Mermaid Beach!

As much as I like a battered sav, I always get potato scallops. Fair dinkum fish and chip shops will always add an extra potato scallop or two as well. I've got a favourite place in Canberra, when I ask for three potato scallops, I can almost always guarantee I'll come home with five of them.

  • Hey Greg, you should try Chevron Island Seafoods, surprisingly, on Chevron Island! Best fish and chips I've had on the goldie!

Love your videos. Awesome food review definitely going to that fish and chip shop. Keep up the amazing videos and make sure to add the chicka-roll next time.

Great choices there Greg. I always get scallops with my fish and chips. Amazing for those night where you donโ€™t want to cook.
