Rise of the TMNT is one of the greatest cartoons in the past decade and it deserved so much more than it was given. What went wrong exactly? Why was it ignored to the point of cancellation?

Fun fact: As mentioned in ep 1. Raph has a "fear stink." Which is a joke, however, it's also a reference to Raph being an Alligator Snapping Turtle as Snapping Turtles are said to secrete a musky odor when they're stressed or irritated.

We also could’ve gotten 7 seasons. 7. We did this show SO. SO WRONG. Since it’s still paused, I hope we can bring it back in some way. Let’s just support and watch as much as possible guys!!
  • Okay- Saber how do you mention how extremely talented every cast member is… And then not talk about Ben Schwartz?? Ben Schwartz is awesome!! The dude is literally becoming every blue character ever, and I love it-
  • @Syiepherze
I LOVE that the turtles are different species. It informs the character designs to make them visually unique (which goes against the point of making them ninjas, but they aren't really known as the "Ninja Turtles" in Japan lol) while also giving the show a kind of found family aspect which is super wholesome. It's just perfect.

Hope they continue doing this kind of thing in future TMNT projects

I thought ROTTMNT was just a Teen Titans Go version of the 2012 show with no action and no story. God, I am so stupid. I am so sorry, ROTTMNT. You deserved so much better...
  • Surprised you didn't talk about April's relationship with the turtles. Feels pretty organic and so enjoyable. Feels more like a part of the family more than anything in this iteration. Plus, Donnie and her have such a sweet best friend dynamic as well.
  • Teen Titans Go caused people to believe that comedic and episodic shows are all going to be inherently bad, especially when it’s a new version of an old show.
  • @bioluminescentu
Not to mention, I love how there’s no forced romantic sublet between one of the turtles and April. It just creates so much uncomfortable tension within the show whenever they make one of them have a crush on their best friend. I think that’s one of the things that sparked my interest in ROTTMNT.
  • As much as we believe we failed it, remember Nickelodeon should have done more to promote it. They dumped the movie on netflix, and immediately moved on to the new movie and upcoming series. It was a great show, amazing really, but its not a show viacom executives want.

This iteration is the reason I'm into the TMNT franchise as a whole. ROTTMNT is criminally underrated, and it's upsetting that this show was given the short end of the stick.

Thanks for brining some light to it, Saber :)

The reason everything was so rushed was because of the cancellation. It was difficult for them to keep and cut things that were both important to the plot and/or entertaining to the viewers. Even with the cut, I think the fast pacing really brings in some realness; enhancing the sense of anxiety and inability to process what's going on, causing the viewer to feel what the turtles are in stressful situations.
I am so grateful for you and this video. Rise is a beauty and deserves another chance. We were 100% robbed. Thank you so much, Saber!
  • @Ziz-The-Fox
You have no idea how much this video means to me. For big YouTubers to be still making rottmnt videos over a whole year after “it ended”, it’s amazing. We still have a chance for this show to be revived, unpaused, whatever. We just need to keep demanding it! #saverottmnt #unpauserottmnt
  • Fun Fact! A lot of the Rottmnt voice actors originally voiced characters in the TMNT 2012 series!
    - Eric Bauza - Splinter (Rise) and Tiger Claw & Hun (2012)
    - Rob Paulsen - Foot Lieutenant & Dastardly Danny (Rise) and Donatello (2012) (he also voiced Raphael in the 87 series)
    - Greg Cipes - Shelldon & Malicious Mickey (Rise) and Michelangelo (2012)
    - Seth Green - Loathsome Leonard (Rise) and Leonardo (2012)
    - Hoon Lee - Shredder (Rise) and Splinter (2012)
    - Zelda Williams - Cassandra (Rise) and Mona Lisa (2012)
    - Gwendoline Yeo - Karai (Rise) and Shinigami (2012)
    And so much more!

ROTTMNT was such an amazing, underrated show. It's a bit goofier and more light hearted than other TMNT incarnations, but it was absolutely hilarious and the animation and fight scenes are awesome. It deserved a much bigger chance than what it got, and I'm sad it's gone.

8:03 Donnie's shell is not misformed, he is a soft shell, which is an actual group of turtles. Mike is a box turtle, they have fun colours and can completely close their shell, Rafael is a snaping turtle, which I why he is big and Leo is a red slider, explaining his eye marks. Alla are different species making them more diverse in design yet they are still family.

Rise is what actually made me a serious TMNT fan. I liked it peripherally before, but I was never super into it until I started watching Rise.
  • @cowabummmer
Their designs are all so unique and I LOVEE IT. It seriously needs a season 3 IMMEDIATELY!!

I'm an animator(3D) and watching this series inspired me soooo much I couldn't even work on my job for few weeks just watching it over and over and over. My 2D animator friends are saying they can't start watching because they will immediately start analyzing it. I'm learning so much about solid posing and appealing facials every time I watch it. It's great to see someone points it out in the review. I can't believe there are people this talented in the world and it's truly amazing to see how it works out. I really wish they make the complete series but with the exact same crew. I'll keep showing it to every people I meet. I want to animate like they did. It's amazing

I never saw this show until 3 years ago, when someone made a fan animation. I didn’t know where to watch it, where it aired… Until 2022, the movie showed up on my Netflix feed. I had no movies to watch and I love any TMNT, I saw Leo (my love) and watched it. My mind…. Was blown away, it reignited my passion for animation— I watched all the episodes in the following weeks, joined many people who shared our love for Rise and formed many friendships in Twitter, discord and more. Rise revolutionised my art making, made me believe i can continue to experiment and be more bold. I’m currently an art student who suffers many art blocks. Rise of TMNT gave me this light, and I owe it so so much. The characters and the writing is so heartfelt and beautiful. Heck, I even formed a closer friend groups and bonds that I currently hold so dear, without Rise of the TMNT, I wouldn’t have my current irl friends who all share this interest (our club is called Turtle Watch party), and I wouldn’t have improved my art—

Thank you Rise of TMNT and anyone who contributed to the franchise and community. All of you shaped who I am today. Thank you. (Even though I doubt anyone will see this)
