Here’s some fun facts about Mort’s real life counterpart, the mouse lemurs: 1. Despite their diminutive size, mouse lemurs are fearsome little predators. They’ll eat cockroaches, insects, and other small animals, but they’ll also consume nectar, flowers, and fruits. 2. Mouse lemurs may look cute, but they look cute for a reason. Their comically large eyes help gather as much available light as possible and their relatively large ears can detect the faintest sounds. Those two adaptations are helpful for an animal that is awake at night and sleeps during the day. 3. There are several different species of mouse lemurs, but the physical differences between them are almost nonexistent. 4. The smallest species of primate (the group of mammals that includes monkeys, apes, lemurs, and people) is a species of mouse lemur. The pygmy mouse lemur weighs only 43 to 55 grams.
