Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) star in Netflix's Bridgerton season 3, following in the footsteps of Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley), and Simon Basset (Regé-Jean Page) and Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor).
In this video, I do a deep dive into the sidelining of Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) in Bridgerton season 3, the over-development of Cressida Cowper, the mechanics of television screenwriting & production!
This is the second review of multiple videos I will be making about Bridgerton season 3!

Benedict gave up his big dream of being an artist, so where is Eloise asking him, why he quit art school ( cause they seemed to have great connection in Season 2 )? Why is nobody else talking about his choice?
  • @annterry9194
Benedict had better lead the next season because I'm not sure how long I can wait! Luke Thompson is such a good actor and really owns his character. Fingers crossed the showrunners give us Benedict in season 4.
  • @merliiiinn
I kept seeing people joke about Luke being so secretive about Benedict's story this season because it was supposed to introduce Sophie, or maybe be super important to the plot to set him up for S4. After the first half of this season, it kinda just feels like he was so quiet and hush-hush because... he literally had NOTHING to say.
  • @catdragon2584
Probably the most out-there detail of the first half of Season 3 is when Violet describes Colin as being kind and having a joke handy to make people laugh. Like, what? That’s not Colin, that’s Benedict! Are you sure you know your kids, Violet? Are you sure you know them?
  • Okay I have noticed something about Benedict, even with his lack of scenes - the man gives up too easily. He doesn't fight for anything. So I'm thinking when they finally get to him (they better get to him), it's going to "Have a purpose. Stick with it. Fight for it."
  • @methosimortal
It seems to me Benedict has the same storyline every season: starts off the supportive background sibling, wants to paint, meets woman whilst painting, has affair with said woman. Rinse and repeat ... Without the painting this season.
  • I think that after Benedict gave up the arts last season the writers don't know what to do with him now because he was always the "art boy brother".
  • @justinelord95
We definitely need more than 8 episodes of Bridgeton. 14 would be amazing but I’ll take 10. Plus I’ll be pissed if Benedict isn’t on for next season!! And of course the release model needs to change!
  • @boo5860
if francesca is the next season it's so over i could DIE before i see benedict's season this is SO SERIOUS
  • @kaylahensley1581
In my opinion the “thesis” of S4 is going to be about Benedict coming to terms with actually falling in love versus having a physical relationship because that’s all we’ve seen from him so far. There’s also (if the book is an indicator) going to be some tension due to social class and Benedict being refused a strictly physical relationship.
  • @kateliness2
Also, I'm so sorry about losing your foster kitties. You are a wonderful human for helping them to their forever homes 💛
  • @tendibee
I think it would've been smart to pair Benedict with Kate this season (Maybe Anthony wants a portrait of Kate & a callback to book Kate who liked to watercolour). Maybe through bonding with Kate he learns a little bit more and becomes a bit more serious about romance in the future (kind of a similar thing with end of S1 Anthony).

Honestly, the Bridgerton watching experience would be even more fun if we had once a week episode drops. Having a week (INSTEAD OF A MONTH) to discuss each episode be so fun, and I feel like it would also engage more casual fans in discussion too while the show is coming out. And if Netflix wanted people to stay longer, it would have people subscribed to their service longer anyways. When Euphoria season 2 came out, it was so fun to talk to people about the episodes as it released weekly and it ended up being something like the most tweeted about show ever! Tbh most of the talking was just venting, but still I feel like the once a week episode drops fosters more social interactions and overall makes the watching the show a more enjoyable experience that sticks with you (excuse my terrible run on sentence lol). Even though Euphoria S2 after episode 2 ended up being a hate watch for my friends and I, the actual discussion of the show as it came out is still something that was really fun! Also great video! I feel like talking to an actual writer for TV shows gave a lot of us insight we wouldn’t have had otherwise!

Still watching the video but personally I wish they had saved the Mondrich storyline from this season for Benedict and Sophie’s. Their strong work ethics and sudden transition to noble-dom would’ve been a nice compliment to the class dynamic convos/tension that Sophie introduces through her relationship with Benedict. So I hear anyway - I haven’t read the books, but since they’ve changed Benedict so much I’m sure the plot/Sophie will too. But Benedict is friendly with them already so it wouldn’t be strange for them to be involved in some way around his relationship - perhaps as a confidant for him and/or Sophie. There’s so much the writers could do with them to compliment and support a Cinderella-esque dynamic between the leading couple, and it would give more substance to the Mondrich’s own storylines too. The couples could provide mutual support to one another. I personally believe side stories should a) progress the main plot, b) progress a future plot, and/or c) provide some meaningful thematic parallel to the main thread of the story. That’s why most people LIKE the Mondrich family this season but don’t CARE about them, and why they worked best in season 1 and struggled in 2. They’re good characters, and bring a fresh POV to the 1% world of Bridgerton, but they’re not being used effectively. I feel bad for the actors who have to watch their characters get backlash when it could’ve totally been avoided. They’re doing a genuinely good job with what they’re given and I hope they know how wonderful they are!!

I don’t know how you’re going to make an hour out of just four episodes after watching your last Benedict video, but even if half of it is you sighing in despair and showing the Benedict goofy face on loop to console yourself/ourselves, I’m here for it.
  • @lucky_squirtle
The two things I got from Part 1 were that Benedict lacks a sense of purpose and that he is resistant to the idea of marriage. His resistance against marriage reminds me of how Anthony was before his season. I like how you pointed out that Benedict always seeks out relationships rather than casual hookups. Even if he is unaware of it, I do think that Benedict is searching for a long-lasting romantic relationship and maybe his relationship with Lady Tilly Arnold will help him realize that by the end of the season. Also, I’m hoping that Benedict revisits the idea of doing art again in his season because I truly think that is his purpose.
  • @paolapoloni4326
Hi! To me it almost felt like he was holding back on jokes and his usual witty contribution to the family banter. And it was such a shame, seen as it started with that "Mozart's Funeral March" banger 🤣 I hope it's all a built up for the second part and ultimately for his main character season 😎
  • @pswinck
I’m not going to give any book spoilers but I feel like Cressida and her family will have something to do with Benedict’s storyline. Specially if they don’t want to introduce more characters and families next season. Cressida’s family could work in place of another important family in Benedict’s story
