Disney Plus added a whole new season to the Monsters At Work Series. We have rival energy companies with callbacks to Johnny Worthington from Monsters University and Randall from the original movie! All at the same time... this pretty self-explanatory story takes place across 5 long hours. It is a Disney Plus tv show. And it really shows. But with both highs and lows of expanding the lore and universe of Pixar's Monsters Inc franchise, but this time on such a low budget and strange format. So come join us as we go through the unexpected new territory that is Disney's Monsters At Work Season 2. Or in other words, Monsters Inc Got Another Expansion....

Unlike megamid, this show actually has the original cast, especially a certain returning favorite villain.
  • I know everyone wanted to see what was going on with boo and Sully, but I think they wanted to leave that alone because it was a touching moment in the franchise.

To me, the best scene would be the moment Tylor scared Ben. In a way, it manages to call-back to a previous moment but adds more context in the same situation. In Sully's scene, it's meant to bring sympathy. But in Tylor's scene, it's meant to bring empathy, as we start seeing how Tylor felt after scaring a kid he's bonded with. We don't see Tylor's breakdown as the viewer, but as Tylor. Moreso, Sully's moment is a sudden jumpscare in his usual work to move things along. But in Tylor's case, it's literally a conundrum of events that spiraled beyond his control, as all that rage, frustration, and stress ultimately pent up into one huge reaction that destroys his view of scaring. The roar itself isn't even a professional one. It's one from extreme anger building up until he lost it, as he roared twice and didn't stop when Ben was scared the first time. In a way similar to a father mistreating his son the same way HIS father mistreated him, realizing too late that he's continuing a cycle of pain. All made more heartbreaking when his fellow co-workers don't even TRY to realize he's not happy the slightest. It hits home real hard. If anything, it truly shows that Tylor is indeed Sully's successor.
  • I was surprised at how dark it got at one point. When Tylor scared that kid he knew was so heartbreaking. And I thought for sure Roger was gonna be the predictable twist villain but was surprised.

I like how this show managed to blend Inc. and University. Disney has weirdly always treated the two like they’re separate brands (if something is MU themed then it can’t reference Inc. and vice versa) so it’s nice to see them bring MU characters forward in time like this.
  • One concept that after some thought we never really saw was that while monster inc was doing the whole laugh power thing, other companies were still using scream power which would have caused problems on both sides. What I mean is say one kid gets a monster from monsters inc and the next it’s fear co and it’s just this merry go round type problem where the kids are gonna be worried or scared of who is going to visit them that night. Could be a cool plot point to bring up or even show for a possible episode.

When a two season show does more to cater to the original movies than Megamind two has then you know something went wrong
  • This season was amazing, say what you want but it’s leagues better than the first.

I heard in the cancelled Monsters Inc sequel, Randall was gonna have a redeeming arc. And Gigantic is another cancelled Disney movie that comes to mind.

I would say a weird retcon was George still lost his fur n has that cone one his head. When the end of monsters Inc he got his fur back n no longer has the cone.

I don't care what people said, but this season is truly special to me. The Monsters Inc franchise has been one of my favourite Disney franchise, and seeing all these characters now back and expanding the world is amazing.

You hit the nail on the head with the kids' designs. I couldn't work out what they reminded me of. Shudder.
  • @endamcnabola
I didn't mind. Though it probably would've been better if Pixar was more involved with it like Cars of the Road.

A fantastic expansion to Monsters Inc. Well done. In my opinion it should have been a theatrical sequel to complete the trilogy. And have the "filler episodes" like bowling and baseball cut from the film and being put into a series.
  • @EXMachina.
"Animation is Cheap looking" what do you mean by that, it looks thousand times better than Wish which is a full feature Film by Disney btw.
  • @coco4144
We need season 3 Randell is still out there somewhere and I wanna see more connection with monsters and humans
  • @kingbeef66
Still, it’s a series. They couldn’t just rush it to the conclusion since the pacing is spread out than a movie. They literally had to be episodic and balance it out with the main plot and the episode plots.

Yet another Disney+ show that should have been a movie.
