I am James Pumphrey and I'm leaving Donut.

Working for Donut Media has been the most incredible experience of our lives. We never thought we’d get to build something that meant so much to us. Something that means so much to so many other people. We gave it our all. We tried our best. We're proud of what we've done in the past 9 years.

It’s time to build something new. Something that we love. A thing to be proud of. A thing of our own.

We’re hopeful that if we do the work, this new thing will mean something to millions of people, just like the last thing did. But this time, no one can take it away from us. This is Speeed. Independently owned and operated since 2024.

Thank you all so much; we hope you like it. - james & jesse

5 days later from posting this video, and you're near 1 million subscribers and 4.3 million views. Needless to say, we love you, and look forward to your future endeavors. I love that you are stepping away from forced structure onto your own paths, doing things you want to do.
  • Up to speed on the foxbody mustang helped inspire me to rebuild my fathers old foxbody that had been sitting in a field for over 10 years. That car has become one of the most valuable and influencal parts of my life. Thank you james.
  • @CboysTV

October 5th 2020 is the exact date I discovered You, James, And Donut. I remember the date specifically because two days before I almost Died ( I have a short of it posted ) . I had just been in an accident at work where someone hit my work truck head on, they were drunk. I came home oct. 3 2020 and slept, the 4th I was in so much pain I just slept more. On the 5th I woke up angry. I sat in my shower and cried because I just had watched two people die, and I should have died and i didn't. I couldn't figure out why I was alive. I have spent my entire life being into cars and trucks, driving has always been my hobby so it was a no brainer I would do that for a living, but on oct.5, 2020 I was scared to even open my front door. I was scared to drive. I didn't know what to do with myself so i sat down, opened my lap top and youtube was open, I hit refresh and boom... there was an UP TO SPEED. While I was going to therapy to deal with the physical and mental challenges I was facing, I also spent the next 5 months watching every single James Pumphrey and Nolan Video. You and Nolan helped me fall in love with driving and cars again. Thanks for being there for me James, you don't know it but you were an important part of saving me from myself. I wish you the greatest future and I will always be here supporting you. - Jamin
  • I watched donut for a long time and enjoyed watching all of you guys. While I was struggling through major life changes, I turned to watching your content to shed light into my miserable life. I hope the best for you and will do my part to like, subscribe, and comment to keep your new channel going. Thanks again for making a difference in my life.

After the algorithm screwed up and didn't show this to me for two days: Everyone remember to subscribe.
  • Bro hearing “this is everything you need to know…to get up to SPEEED” gave me chills James. Thanks bro

I remember first getting into donut around 2017-2019 when I had first moved out of my parents. It was a point of connection for my roommate and I, who I now gleefully refer to as a brother! When covid hit I was in the worst living situation I've been in 400+ miles away from my brother, donut was one of the few points of peace and happiness I could find. I'm extremely grateful for everything you contributed to Donut and the entire team. Thank you, James, for your time, I can't wait to get up to Speeed!!!!!

This video has 4.4 million views. The most recent Donut video has 500k. I don’t know what all happened, and I’m not trying to be a hater, but I fell off watching every Donut video awhile ago. But now with Speeed and Bigtime, RIP Donut.
  • James was the reason I started watching Donut and Zack Jobes and Jeremiah were the reason I stuck with it.
  • "I was living on a fucking porch when I met you" That line was dripping with sincerity. I love you James!
  • @ali1-931
ames was a massive part of Donut, he deserves all the success with this new channel and chapter of his life. Good luck @James, we've all got your back. 👍👍👍

Funny enough, I only discovered Donut when I first started watching absurd amounts of car videos when I worked in a gun range at Bass Pro and had just bought my 2014 Mustang GT. I'm glad to see everyone is still involved in their interest in some way. Companies that get big like this inevitably lose their roots as they hyperfocus on appealing to the masses instead of balancing what made them great and how to bring it to new audiences in easy-to-consume formats. The focus shifts from searching for a formula to set yourself apart, to a formula of how to milk your existing avenues of success, and you end up alienating the people who are responsible for what successes you've had so far. Good luck James.

Hey James. In the unlikely event you read this, just wanted to say... "Thanks." What you guys did at Donut was much more than just car videos. You made the car hobby approachable and accepting to everyone. Being a gay weeb, I never really felt accepted in car culture before Donut. I loved Initial D and other car things, but the car culture was so closed to me. You guys revolutionized the entire car culture, thanks to you, anyone could enjoy it. You're a life changer, man.

As an OG subscriber of Donut, I want to thank you James, my high school life was always full of laughs and I learned a lot from you, It was great to watch you during lunchtime on my school issued chromebook, pop up headlights is a core memory for me, we're all here for you, not Donut itself.
